I installed this about 3 weeks ago...
Walmart.com: Sony Car Audio Bundle: Sony Xplod GT09HP CD/MP3 Player System with 4 Speakers: Auto Electronics

I think that it was the perfect radio. $90 for headunit, (2) 6.5", (2) 6x9" speakers. I pulled off a clean install, the sound is incredible, price is even better. I can put up pics if anyone wants

Hows the fit of those 6.5 inch speakers in the front doors? I think a lot of speakers have clearance issues.

Pictures would be great!

You are missing the point here: these HD units retain some of the look and feel of the OEM components in the 60: green lights, plain square-ish controls. PLUS there is the added bonus of the NOAA weather, and traffic alerts and the PA (although I use my CB for that it might be fun to add a mic for this as a PA instead - it's instant ON even if the stereo is off at the time you click the mic button - useful since I don't typically have my CB on unless I'm on a long trip or on the trail)

I had this Blaupunkt Jackson:

when it died I was forced to get a more modern looking head unit (some Kenwood basic unit)... it works ok but the controls are too small and it's too flashy looking for my tastes and for the dash in general... just my opinion.

I am interested in this primarily for the larger controls and the OEM-ish look.

i agree i so much prefer the OEM look, for some reason if its stock its rocks... but i also hate teh dancing dolphins and the hot air baloon races and small buttons and thin multiple buttons to do this and that . so thats y i like the old fashion stock look , i particulary like the guy on here that horse-shoed in a Scion OEM radio. but i would love to have a the cubby hole there for keeping my cell phone and such off teh floor

looks like it would fit good mine dosent have a cage and always falls into the dash

we need some installed pics! anyone?

I get mine on the 24th and it will go on the tuffy.
I too like the NOOA and the look of it....
I dont do CD's but will get the Sirius sat service to go with it...
I'll post pics once I install it..

Just ordered a Jensen with cd ,super nice people, they said they only have had one come back since they have sold them. Rated no 1 by people who drive coach motor homes. MIke

I've been following this thread and thought about getting the Jensen, but in the end I cheaped out and went with the Pioneer DEH-3100UB (~$150). Since I've converted my entire CD collection to MP3, I can put more than 10 hours of music onto one CD, so I can reduce the number of disc's I bring along dramatically. It has the ability to jump between tracks as well as folders, which is a big navigation improvement compared to my OEM BMW CD that only jumps between tracks.

I've had good off-road behavior with Pioneer CD's in the past, but have not tested this unit off-road yet. It worked fine on a recent road trip from SF to Vegas and back. Next week I'm going down to Joshua Tree NP, so I'll have more experience with it after that.

What I don't like is the joystick contol. It's still confusing to me how to use it to change functions, etc. and I can't read the tiny lighted labels from the drivers seat. I guess I'll have to sit down and read the manual...

Thats why I bought the Jensen for my daughter, easy controls simple to use. Anything put in John Deere tractors has to be good. Mike

I recently picked up a Factory Scion Alpine radio. Was a special edition head unit/model. Has video output if I want to run a video out to an external monitor. Got it off ebay for 60 shipped!

Looking to pick up ipod/mp3 interface for it soon.

Thus the desire for something like this HD unit....

I've had excellent results from previous Pioneer front ends, but I must confess that this latest generation of these hasn't impressed me. I too, haven't liked that wobbly knob and have been considering some other brand since I can't get the unit that I'd prefer and have in my Mini-truck. (It's been out of production for several years.)

For those of yah that like what Spook has..I almost went with this one single DIN 7" screen radio.

I really like the way it looks and cruthfield which was giving a free navigation system with the purchase of one of these... dont know if they still are.. but finally opted to go with the Jesen Unit as I already have a GPS on the dash board..

Here is another option for the Double DIN needing FJ62 drivers out there. Pretty much nails the vibe of the thread: Stock look that is fully up to date but still holds to the features/build quality along the lines of what the original post suggested for a single DIN radio.

Panasonic CQ-5800U Heavy Duty Double DIN Radio with iPod + Weather radio

I just ordered it so I'll let you all know how it looks and performs relative to stock. I like that it is nice and burly with a stock vibe (green LEDs to match) but has the included iPod cables and can also input via USB or an AUX line.
