The engine bay rebuild in my sig started with a radiator leak....
Well the dash being torn apart to the firewall just started with a new radio install.:doh:
I saw the amount of 25 year old dirt built up in all the vents and i couldnt help myself.
This is far less complicated and involved than the engine bay but im wondering-- now that i have the dash completely torn apart is there anything i should replace while im in there?

Im doing the heater core, even though mine is not leaking yet, since i dont want to have to do this again.
would you trust a Performance radiator heater core? they are 200$ less than oem.

Like VTcruiser, I am redoing all the foam gaskets for the vents.

Any other PM items i should do? Speedo Cable?

Thanks for any help :cheers:

Dude, dude, dude... while your in there throw some sound deadning and a noise/ heat barrier on the firewall. BY FAR, the biggest difference in noise/ heat control, but most people overlook doing this because its a PITA to pull the dash.

You'll thank me later. Let me know if you want suggestions on high quality materials for this job.

Multiple products.... First, sound dampning sheets (second-skin or the like), covered by my own home made, spray on "lizardskin", and finally foil covered jute, or similar thick padding (MLV and CCF is the best) with insulative qualitites. You wont hear or feel the engine.

Information on DIY spray on "lizardskin" can be found here: http://www.crankshaftcoalition.com/wiki/Ceramic_insulation

Really works better than any other product ive used.

@dbleon: What is MLV or CCF?

Interesting article, BTW. The heat from my floorboards is really about to get the best of me.

MLV = mass loaded vinyl
CCF = closed cell foam

This is the stuff used by the pros (high end) to stop pretty much all airborne road/vehicle noise.

Both are pricey but worth it.
