Too bad it is a Jensen. It is not a company known for quality car audio equipment.

Got my unit on the mail yesterday.
I test fitted it on the tuffy and it drops right into the box...
Fits like a glove....
Never installed a new radio before but this one seems pretty straight forward all connections on the rear (except for speakers/power/antenna) are covered with dust shields....:clap:

Question: The directions state not to connect the unit straight to the battery but to a switched power wire. Why is that??:confused:
Is it to avoid leaving the radio on and draining the battery ?:confused:
I could install it to the switched power wire but I rather run it some what straight to the battery and having the radio on without having to turn the key at all..... :D:D
Thanks for any replies...

Im now waiting for my sirius receiver (SC-C1 $40.00) to arrive. The radio has a Sirius dedicated female 8 pin plug and should be ready to go (plug n play).... Im liking this unit more and more....:bounce::bounce:

As for being a Jesen.. I have a crappy radio in it right now, so any upgrade (yeh including a Jensen) is good for me....!!!;);)

I'll post pics later,

Hey Frank...
Your radio should have a constant 12v, usually yellow, that goes straight to the battery. It should also have a red switched 12v wire usually called 12v accessory. You can leave the red 12v accessory not connected and turn the radio on with the keys out. The radio should be able to turn all the way off by pushing and holding the power or off button. They barely consume any power in that state the only thing its using power for is to keep the settings in memory. I would just give it a try worst case is you have a dead battery and you end up having to connect the 12v accessory to a switched 12v. What I would do is run the red 12v accessory wire down to the Rear defrost switch and put a wire splice connector on the end and leave it there unconnected, that way if you end needing to connect it because its draining the battery you wont have to pull the dash cover or the stereo, insteadd you can just pull out the rear defrost switch out and splice it onto the blue w/ yellow stripe wire on the back.

I could use your help installing new leafs sometime this month if you got the time, I dont have the right tools. I could help you do your stereo too if you need...

I installed this about 3 weeks ago...
Walmart.com: Sony Car Audio Bundle: Sony Xplod GT09HP CD/MP3 Player System with 4 Speakers: Auto Electronics

I think that it was the perfect radio. $90 for headunit, (2) 6.5", (2) 6x9" speakers. I pulled off a clean install, the sound is incredible, price is even better. I can put up pics if anyone wants

I just bought this system and i have two 10" subs with a 600w amp really great sound.:) where did you put your two 6x9's.

I've got a current bad experience with having the radio wired straight into the battery (as opposed to switch via the ignition switch). Basically, it kills the batteries (Dual battery setup) if I don't drive the rig for 5 - 7 days and is slow to crank if I let it sit for more than 3. I'm in the process of rewiring it correctly so that the main power is switched and and the aux power only (memory, clock, etc) is battery direct. It even killed a set of new batteries in a week. No bueno.
Good luck

Any sort of amp or IPod charging adapter involved? I had the same issue with an iPod adapter. Once I put it on the amp remote control I quit having the problem. Now that I have an amp I need to use the remote control to drive a relay.....

Frank, let me know if you need a hand wiring it up. I just finished moving mine to the Tuffy.

Youll like it a lot. I will for sure put pictures up tomorrow I have been lagging. I installed the 6x9's in the cargo panels. I made some 1/4" birch wood backings for them too, it turned out really nice. I need to get subs+amp

No - no ipod or amp - just the factory radio at that - the truck was rebuilt at one point with a new wiring harness and I think the thought was that this would work fine - but after having owned one like this I'd recommend following the stock wiring harness...

Reason that I asked is that I wire all of my stereos in trip rigs (but not DD's) independent of the IGN switch. This so that I can play music w/o needing to turn the key on. It wasn't until I added the Ipod adapter to my Sub that I had trouble with draining the battery with the stereo off.

Pictures man Pictures! Did you get the mic attachment for the PA system? (come out we have the place surrounded!)

Dynosoar:zilla:

OK, so I got my sirius box and it took about 4 hrs to take out the old stereo re-wire everything to the tuffy and drop the new unit in. Pretty straight forward I'd say.

I did have to dremel about 1mm of each side of the Tuffy for the unit to sit all the way down and flat but other than that.. it looks pretty good...

LOVE this unit. it matches the green lights on the dash board and I can dim it waaaaaay down... I thought I was getting good sound from the previous unit but with this unit and the Sirius the sound quality is much better. I still need to get the wire for the IPOD direct connection so I can leave it inside the Tuffy charging and can control it straight from the head unit.
Me likes the NOOA and it is set up to turn on by itself whenever there is a weather alert.

The buttons on this unit a perfect for my digits and not being blind by the bling/bling lights other units have and or having to squint to see the time on the unit its a huge plus....

Did I mentioned it sounds freaking awesome???? It does !!!

Gotta get a remote (just cause I can).

Peter no PA but I'll probably put it on down the road...
(where is that darn rig.....DUDE ??? )

I'll post pics tomorrow when there is day light....

Now, anyone knows where I can get a box-like that will fit where the old unit used to be? I want to put my OBD II scanner up there but it would be nice if it had a lid.....so I could hide it....

Thanks for all of yah that offer to help.... I wasn't planning on doing this today but schedule opened up and I decided to do it.....

Oh also, this unit has only one power lead and it does state not to connect direct to the battery but to a power ignition wire.. So I did......

Ok... so, YER KILLIN' ME...

For you FJ62/Double DIN guys out there (Like Redmuttonchops), I threw the Panasonic Heavyduty in this weekend as well.

It is a super simple job and the results are phenomenal. iPod controls, NOAA radio, AUX, USB, and it looks stock - not bad. I didn't have to trim a thing - the unit is almost the exact same size as the stock unit.

The whole job including doing the wiring took me under an hour and that is considering the fact that I've never installed a stereo in my life.

I'll throw a little install thread together and link to it with pics for the other stereo novices out there like me.

Also, if you have a 62 but want to get a single DIN unit, you can get this to fill in the extra space you created by pulling your double DIN OEM unit out:
Single DIN Cup holder (no affiliation)

Thx Alpinecowboy, yeah im allways looking for new goodies to put in 62 i seen those cup holders but im not sure it will hold up my 52oz big gulps in these lovely Az trails... even though i very much need a decent big cup holder. but id like to put a cubby under so i can keep my smokes and camera and maybe phone in there. but since i have to pay off christmas it might be several months before i can afford it ...how ever ill still be monorting this post

Here are some pics...

Going to get a remote and attachement for the ipod......
Best part is that between sirius and ipod......no more dusty CD's... just a personal preference.

The sirius box is a plug and play and I used some double tape and put it under the tuffy.
The green light is at its brightest on the last two shots and it can be lowered but I like it at hi as it is not hard on the eyes... Its a no frills radio and I like it. Its wired to a 12v ignition wire but im getting a lot of feed back from the turn signals and the headlights when ever they are on.

I might get a filter (if there is such thing) or wire it straight to the battery..Any thoughts or comments on the feed back are welcome as I dont know much about audio set up...

Looks REAL nice man! Glad you got it going. Where did you mount the Sirius antenna?
