my backseats.

they have pockets.

like the back seat back. down low, stitched into the front of the fabric, there's multiple pockets, 4 of them i think.

i would've never noticed this since i never sit back there, but i was replacing the latches today and thought that was pretty funky.

is there a purpose to them or are they really what they appear to be?

Yes, they are for tucking the seatbelt buckles into, they hold them up out of the way when you're trying to drop the seat bottom back down, so they don't get trapped underneath. There should be a sticker on the driver's side rear door panel that shows this, although it might be gone.
