I need get my wagon back on the road and I've been all day trying to remove the forward facing starter securing bolt. I have done a search and find this, where Snowdog/man/flake (sorry forgot ) says:

........."Removed front wheel (starter side) pull off the rubber water guard, remove auto box dip stick, undo the two screws that hold the auto box dip stick in place, one on inlet manifold and other just below starter motor, leave the two small hoses connected! then just pull upper out of the lower half of the dip stick and move to one side and push a small bit of tissue into the lower half of dipstick to stop debris entering the auto sump.
Remove the + terminal off the battery, then remove the two connections on starter motor, one is a push connector and the other is secured with a nut and washer.
Remove the two bolts that secure the motor to the bell housing, I used a 17mm open/ring combination spanner, I put the ring end on the bolt head and used a 19mm ring spanner on the end of the 17mm so to use as leverage, sounds confusing if you have never done this, but just put the ring end of a spanner on the open end of a spanner and try it, it works great, then remove motor out through the wheel arch area."........................

BUT please can someone give more detail as I can not get a wrench onto the forward facing bolt.

Small hands and small arms help.

Try to get at the forward facing bolt by moving away some of the wiring around the area and being creative on where you insert your arms through the frame rail area.

You should definitely jack up the truck and definitely take the wheel off. I don't think you need to take the tranny dipstick off...I didn't need to and it seems do-able without doing so.

I assume you got the rear facing bolt off? That's the easy one.

I also recommend a 6 pointed wrench as opposed to a 12.

Just my .02

Good luck.

Thanks Guys

Got it now. Were they tight ever!!!

cool, for me it was a bunch of extensions, a friend holding the socket on the bolt and me with an iron pipe over my breaker bar...

Man, you guys had it rough. All mine took was enough extensions to clear the starter body with a 1/2" drive ratchet and it popped right off. The back one was a little tougher -- I had to curse at it a couple times before it would break free.
