Hey Team,
So here is a little update on Forest Patrol...well my idea was solid and after meeting with the RCMP, a representative from Island Timberlands, and the ministry of forest, Terry Martens a retired guy in Parksville, picked up the ball up and got it done!
So Forest Patrol is gone, and now there is a new name the "Island Rangers Society" which is officially registered as a Society under the BC Government Society Act. All founding members had to take a training course at the Island Timberlands head quarters, and there will be more training still ahead before the offical launch.
I'm proud that my idea was solid enough to work, and now all the founding members are going to have legal access to all privately controlled forest lands here on VI via an issued electronic gate key that according to the forest company will work on all the main gates here on the island. They are just in the process of updating their gates to this new system and there will be a Forest Ranger in each area of the island to help facilitate access.
Its my understanding that all the forest companies here on the island and possibly BC are working to be under one management company called Mosaic Forest Management: https://www.mosaicforests.com/
Its all still new and exciting so I will keep our club in the mix as things progress and I learn more about the Island Rangers Society.

Excellent. I’ve always argued that by locking out those who will respect the gates, it leaves it to the wackos who’ll go in and trash the area.... without anyone watching.
