hey, ive had a two barrel holly on my F engine for years and its been completely worthless. I read an article about jeeps switching to a ford two barrel carb because they are great offroad. then i remembered a ford and a holly have the same bolt pattern, so i switched the holly for the ford and it gave me twice the power and torque. I was just wondering if anyone else has ever tried that?

Whats to gain over your
holley?
the
autolite has side pivot floats vs. the center pivot on the Holley. On street cars they don't like to make right turns at slow speed because of the float pivots. If you can't find someone that can tune the holley where are you going to find someone to tweak an autolite? Years ago when we would have people come in complaining about the response and idiosyncracies of their autolites we would convert them over to Holleys at the ford dealership.

What has the holley done to you? Maybe an FI conversion is the direction you should consider. When I lived in CO the elevation changes would screw with my holleys. the power circuits in the carters seemed to adapt better. But if it's not elevation i'd just fine someone that can tune her.

Don't go to bigand your OK with the Holley.

2-barrel Motorcrafts run at a lot of angles with no modification. They're very reliable as well. I had one on an early Bronco, but haven't tried it on an F.

When I bought my 40, it had a two barrel Motorcraft on it, and I just couldn't quite get it to run right. I swapped in a 2-bbl Holley from a junkyard and it has run great since, even on side angles. Doesn't like to run when the 40 is standing on it's rear, though........

The holly that i was running did pretty well offroad but i could never get it running smoothly on the road. it was always lacking power and acceleration.

i am not sure what carb i got i do know it is a stock replacement for a ford pinto 1600 motor yes I said pinto. its what I had i had to drill the mounting holes on it a bit to get it to fit moded the gas cable and lines along with took apart the water controled choke and changed it to cable all in alll it took me about an hour to get it all hooked up. works great i only have a prob with it when i get the truck almost vertical. Oh its on a stock 73 with a header and an sm465 plenty of power

Stock V-8 Broncos did very well with Autolite 2100 carbs.

yosemitesamtlc73, you sure it's a 1600 Pinto carb?

The stock carb on many Ford 1600 I-4 engines was the bbl 731F-BDA. It has a throttle bore of 1.342". From the top it looks like a single round throttle bore. It likes 3.5 to 4.5 lbs of fuel pressure, which is on the low side and is susceptible to vapor lock. The 1600 is a British Ford engine used on cars like the Cortina. These are pushrod engines, and are unique in having flat combustion surfaces on the head - the combustion chamber is in the piston. These engines are used for Formula Ford racing.

The more common Pinto engines are the 2000 and 2300 I-4's, which are similar to each other. These are single overhead cam. They used a Holley-Webber 2-bbl carb which itself is somewhat unique in that it has primary and secondary throttle plates. The bores are 1.260" primary and 1.417" secondary. From the top it looks like it has two square throttle bores.
