hello,

i am not sure if this is the correct place to post this so i apologize if this is not the correct thread.

i writing in hopes of gaining a local contact and can help me figure out what to do with my land cruiser. i have a 1988 FJ62 that i took to get the motor rebuilt, long story short the mechanic that was supposed to rebuild the motor never did so i now have an FJ62 with the motor in the back and i can no long afford to keep it.
i am looking for advice as to what i should do with this truck and if anyone local has interest? attached is a picture of the truck before the motor went bad, the truck has been sitting for almost a year with out the motor in it.
i need to recoup as much as i can but not sure of the true value of a truck that does not run.
any insight that you can provide would be welcome. i am at a loss as to what to do… this could be perfect for a V8 conversation?
i look forward to your feedback.
thank you
bill

It's only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. In my case, not much, but would like to know what you want for it.

FJ60's/FJ62's (and all Land Cruisers for that matter) appeal to a niche market. Without a running engine, your market just got a lot smaller because it's difficult to ship a vehicle that doesn't run. My advice would be to find a mechanic that can get it running so that you can recoup your investment. I'll throw some numbers out there for reference... Based on the picture, it looks like its in great shape. Let's say, for sake of arguing, perfect condition inside and out. You might get $1500 for it; more if you're willing to wait. Now if you spend $2000 and get the engine running right, you're looking at a whole lot more than $3500. Probably over $10K given the popularity of these vehicles. That's a good $2000 investment.

What's wrong with the motor? Is it repairable?

i gave the mechanic $7000 and got back a truck with the motor in the back seat. the motor is not repairable. i will need to sell this truck as is.

thank you for the feedback.

With out diving into the weeds on your issue, use mud to find an engine and drop it in. Used 3FE can be found otherwise go to LKQ in North Chuck and get a 350 and some marks adapters. Unless it is really clean and everything else is good 1.5k to 2.5k is pretty much tops you will find with the people on mud.

in your post you mentioned spending $2000 and getting it running... who would you recommend to do the work?

thats probably doing the work yourself

Agreed, but I think it’s heavily dependent on what can be salvaged from the existing drivetrain. If he only needs a 3FE block and head... might not be that bad...

I know its been a while but posts like this are what got ONSC to where it is today. Lets do what we can, barring Bill wants to, to get his truck back up. Johnny C had a body set on his truck one weekend and a few months later a diesel swap in just over two days. We have the resources among us.

Surely we can figure this out.

^^^^ I could not agree more

Gents, I have a Large Big Green Egg Smoker that I am not using. Toying around with selling it. I have $700 in it, it has a brand new BGE seal and new wheels. Thought I would use it for smaller smokes, but I can’t break the habit of using the XL. Not hurting for money so if you have stuff to trade lemme know.

So you have TWO Big Green Eggs????? :censor:

Lots of 80 series doors, hoods, fenders, core supports, inner fenders, hatches, tail gates

FULL, still in the truck, brown cloth interior. CLEAN, including head liner

All this stuff is going one way or another, don't cry once they are gone. I have 3 full trucks here and I am only keeping the rollers. It either all sells soon or goes to the scrap yard, I need space back.

Send PM if interested
