1983 Volvo 240 DL Wagon, Located in Demorest, Georgia $2300 (have about $3000 + invested) Will be in Georgia from 20-26th of Jan if anyone wants to meet and drive it.
Kind of Rare 4 speed manual with push button overdrive (works great)
230,000 miles (roughly)
Fuel Injected (starts up perfect even in sub freezing weather)
4 wheel disc brakes (ATE system)
Cruise Control (works great)
A/C (Ice cold)
Heat (super hot)
Manual windows
Tow package installed to frame
4 brand new Pirelli All Season tires with maybe 6,000 miles on them.
No leaks of any kind, dead reliable
I have driven this Volvo from Demorest, Georgia to Shebrooke, Qc. I honestly got 26-28 mpg on 89 Octane after I modified the air intake going 70-75 mph (runs smooth even at highway speeds). In town I usually got 22 mph in stop and go traffic. It fires up even in -20 weather, heat blows hot, air is ice cold. The Volvo is currently inside my garage in Georgia. I didn’t want it to rust out in Canada so I drove it back to Georgia and garaged it. It also sucked in snow being a long rear wheel drive car. Many times I had to have strangers drive it while I pushed haha true stories!
Why I am selling it: I have an FJ60, 89 Celica GT-S, 89 Celica Alltrac Turbo AWD, 90 Geo Tracker on 32” tires, 69 Plymouth Roadrunner, 83 Grummon P30 Box Truck. I am in the states about 1 month per year, so I need to sell some of these cars. I also need to free up one bay in my garage for my Roadrunner. Hate to sell it, and know I will regret it, but I should.
I paid $1000 for the Volvo then did all of the following:
$600 for Pirelli all-season tires
$300 replaced all the coolant lines
$300 replaced air conditioning line, dryer/receiver, etc. (Ice cold air) Line blew out this past summer so I had a refrigeration truck shop make me a new high pressure line for the main line, about 4’ in length.
$150 replaced carrier bearing
$300 had all the brake system cleaned (because they were freezing in the sub-freezing weather of Canada) and undercoated with a oil based rust preventative (looks nasty, but I didn’t want it to rust when I had it in Canada even though I only drove it in the winter for one month) No rust at all.
Replaced:
- back door handle
- windshield washer reservoir
- rebuilt the washer fluid motors
- replaced the rear taillight housing
- re-wired passenger side headlight
- modified air intake
- put in new seatbelt in rear
- rebuilt headlight switch
- rebuilt alternator and replaced all the rubber bushings that mounts it to car
- changed all the fan belts, a/c belt, serpentine, etc.
- exhaust re-tacked as it had a weld come loose
- changed one caliper because it was sticking , have 3 others new in box, front driver’s side caliper bleeding valve broke so I put a bolt in it for a temp fix. (new caliper awaiting installation when convenient)
Previous owner replaced:
- New Rack and Pinion
- New Rear Main Seal
- New Freeze Plugs
- I say new but this was all done about 3-4 years ago, but has not been driven.
The bad:
- Small dent in back passenger roof pillar
- It’s an old Volvo, so it will need constant minor TLC.
- Front seats are not lower back comfortable for long drives (I had plans of swapping them out for newer Volvo seats)
Feel free to search the forum, I have posted stuff along the way as I fixed things and found issues. I'm being 100% honest, I am not out to make any money. I will consider trading on anything of value that doesn't take up my garage space, no cars or boats please. Firearms are always welcomed, just offer you never know. Thanks -Nick
