I replaced both of my crusty fog light housings with some knockoff brand i found on amazon for $44 delivered. It rained last week and yesterday i noticed about 3/4 inch of water in the housing on the driver side fog light!

Dilemma. Do i replace with yota oem parts at $135 per side or do i take a chance on one of these other knock offs?

Im open to suggestions.

My passenger side fog light is broken due to someone trying to force the wrong bulb into the housing:bang:. Driver side lens is blurry. So pretty much I need to replace both. I been curious if one of those knock offs produces pretty good light output, and how long it will last.

If we should just buy OEM so it will last longer, does the OEM foglights produces pretty good light output? Or maybe better of getting a good aftermarket? Any suggestions?

Chris

Well, there's always this... ;j

Free early 100 series OEM fog lamps

what brand did you purchase? i also got mine from ebay. winjet brand. I parked outside my house, it rained and boom next thing i saw was dripping water inside the fog lamps. contacted the seller and they refunded me 50%. i'll just use that refund to reseal my fogs.

Yep same issue with those amazon ones. Luckily I saved the old ones and took a lens polishing kit to it. If it were me I would just get the OEM's or find an old set to clean up.

I'd remove them and drain the water. Let them completely dry and add some clear silicone between the lens and housing. Should solve the problem.

I'm not sure. Before they got hit with rain and puddles I noticed that there was condensation from about day 2 on. What I noticed is that the OEM has a vent with a rubber gasket on the back. The Non-OEM have no vent. I think the silicon with assist with water coming in but I think the venting is an issue and it creates condensation.

Hmm. Possibly? I had knockoff headlights on my Tacoma that I sealed with silicon and had them on for a couple years without a problem. Could be worth a try.

Yea I still have them so I may as well. Did you just run it all around the edges of the fixture?

OEM for sure last the longest, or consider DEPO brand fog lamp as an option. Great quality and cheaper than OEM, will not turn yellow or crack like most of the cheap light in the market in a year or 2. I usually carry the DEPO LED/Halogen fog lamp, but out of stock for now.

I bought one of these off Amazon about 8 months ago. Works perfectly and is almost identical to OEM lens. Been through standing water and numerous rain storms all without issue.

How is the light output? Pretty good compare to OEM?

Thanks
Chris

Hard to say since my OEM's were all scratched up & hazzy until I took a 3m restoration kit to them. One thing I noticed is that there is a bulb cover / reflector on the OEM but nothing around the bulb in these . Probably how they keep cost down since that piece on the inside is metal. But with that said before they began to fill with water they seemed fine to me.

Near identical to OEM as far as I can tell. Construction seems identical as well. My fogs stay on all the time when the head lights are on and I can't tell any difference in light pattern. Let me know if you want some close up pix from front or rear.
