I have a Year 2000, 100 series with 196,000 miles on it and have noticed a "fluttering" noise upon a cold start up the past few months. It seems to go away, once the engine warms up. Also, I notice deminished power going up a "hill" west of Denver this weekend. What's going on with the fluttering and is it related to the deminished power going up hills?

Any thoughts our suggestions are appreciated!

Sounds like you have one or both exhaust manifolds cracked. The noise goes away when warmed up because of expansion. Don't think it is related to loss of power (more likely 230 horsepower and 6000 pounds at high elevation going uphill don't mix very well being the reason for loss of power), Anyway most owners choose to leave the manifolds alone but on my 2000 L/C I replaced both of them because I am super particular and couldn't stand the tick sound anymore. Hope this hepls. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks TT05. That may explain the fluttering...but I have been driving my loaded LC on the I-70 West of Denver for 13 years and noticed today, how sluggish it felt...so I don't know if that's tied to some kind of power loss as well???

Another question...with a faulty or bad exhaust manifold, would this also attibute to the recent smell of gas or fumes, going slow while 4 wheeling over tough terrain?

Yes to the fumes. Is your maintenance up to date? Did you fill up at a sketchy station?

Yes all of my maintenance is up to date and no sketchy fills
