Time for a new floor jack. I'd like to get one that's stout and can handle a lifted truck. Any recommendations for or against any in particular?

I pick up a 6 ton one at harbor freight that had the highest throw I could find. I'll post a pic of it when I get home. Not an easy thing to find when you have a lifted vehicle.

It's a 4 ton not 6 my bad

Just a random safety thought... but I'd probably want to set a couple of strong blocks or wheels under key points just in case a jack were to fail while I'm under my beast in the garage... ;)

Agreed. Got these when I picked up the jack. These are the 6 ton

I have a 3 ton aluminum from harbor freight. 189.00
rapid lift, also light weight if you need to take it with you.

I have the 3 ton version of this jack. I'm not sure why I didn't get the 4 ton...perhaps because the extra 30lbs makes it a pain to pick up? Or I just didn't see it. :)

4 ton: min 4", max 20 1/2", weight 99.9lbs
3 ton: min 5", max 18 1/4", weight 68.9lbs

I've been watching for Hein-Werner long frames on craigslist for a few months. Easier to find a 10 tonne than a 4 and while the lift height is nice I don't really want to drag around 430lbs. @DawnC and I have run out of capacity AND lift height with suspension work on our normal jacks.

25 3/4" / 65cm max lift height:
Hein-Werner Automotive Professional Hydraulic Service Jack — 4-Ton Lifting Capacity, Model# HW93657 | Floor Jacks| Northern Tool + Equipment

@arich you have swapped out your suspension many times. What do you use?

How smooth and precise on the release? Does the D handle turn for this part of the operation or a different mechanism? How are rebuild kits? Really a great price for an EU made hydraulic IMO.

I have two of these and four jack stands.
Holding the boat at angle to drain the bilge here.

The release is thru the D handle, simply pull up on it about 1" and twist CCW to open the valve. You can easily control the decent rate of the load anywhere from very slow to fast by varying the amount of 'twist' of the handle. It can easily be done one handed.

I have had the jacks for several years and have not needed to perform any service other than occasional inspections so I cannot answer your question regarding a rebuild. Mine see regular home garage use and I have yet to see any drips or weeping seals on the cylinder nor experience any sag/droop when the load is lifted and stationary.
