I have a floating rubber swimming in my clutch reservoir tank. In the repair manual I also see this rubber.

What is the reason for this thing in the oil?

I've got one too. I think it is there to keep bubble from forming due to sloshing around. But that 's just a guess.

Minze got it too.

It is put there for something to worry or ask about.

Can you imagine the fun those crazy Japanese Toyota designers had when they coughed up this idea?
"Let's put a rubber in that reservoir! And then let's see what those stupid westerners are going to write about it in about twenty years!"
"Hai, hai! And don't forget to put it in the manual!"

It's like a rubber duck in your bath. It has no use, but it's fun to watch...

I feel cheated my replacement non OEM resevoir doesn't have one. And the clutch still works....

You could sue the Japanese... Or buy a bath duckie and stuff it into the reservoir:meh:

Just don't leave one floating in the toilet at your girlriend's parents house.

Sorry, that was too easy.....................and I went there anyway..........dammit

Now that was funny... Leave the door open and someone is gonna drop a bomb...

like others i always figured it was to disperse the fluid when you put it in to keep it from bubbling and letting air in

I have one too and I can only assume it's for reducing bubbles like 2mbb said.

What Jim said. I think it is suppose to slow the absorption of water into the brake fluid.

Of course you'd find a rubber in there - it's the "reservoir tip" design...

I thought it was just a floating dark line you could see easily through the platic to give you a level reference without having to pop the top.

It's a UFO. Probably from a very small planet. They originally infiltrated the Land Cruiser community to take over the 4WD world. But they drowned. That's why they stay away nowadays and that's the reason you don't find them in the replacement reservoirs.
True story.
