Ok , on my drive today I took the camera , hoping to find some rocks to flex up on . No luck .. everything has a mountain of snow on it .. maybe try the highschool steps when no one is around later ;)

Anyway , as I sat there looking at mounds of snow which I knew were buried some choice rock , I pondered what my approach would be , and tried to imagine how I'd drive down off the rock , if not backing off .

It became apparent that ... ( you ready for this ?? ) .. I have no clue !! :flipoff2:

What I would love to find is a primer , that details simple rules .. do's and don'ts for entry to intermediate rock crawling . I know guys must be able to just walk up to something and eye ball it and ascertain whether their rig can do it or not without ripping off flares , and crushing rockers .

I'm ready to get into this flexing stuff , but not at the expense of rockers etc . Still have to pay this thing off !

TIA

TY

Just go to one of those concrete loading ramps like you've seen here.....just don't flip it on the side like that hummer did!

T Y L E R,

There are videos available that would be better than trying to read something in a book with pictures. We have a brief video The Fun We Have on our club web site.

Find a big rock and punch it dude :flipoff2:

Cereal now, just inch your way up one with one of the front tires taking note not to plow into it with the ARB.

Start out small and work you way up. Nuttin to it, but go slow and start small.

Part of hesitation stems from the fact that I have not fab'd bump stop extensions yet , nor have I stuffed a tire to see if they will rub .... I also lack sliders .

The rock I was envisioning this PM was one of those concrete retaining blocks at the edge of a lookout . Probably not the best thing to start with . The height , and rectangular shape don't exactly scream "try me to start" . These are a couple feet high ...

I'll look at the video , and look for a ramp or steps to begin with .

Thanx ,

TY

Nope , but I'm sure most guys in the absence of any management types would be happy to oblige me with a lift .

Is this also a way to determine how far to extend the bumpstops TF ? Where exactly shall we slide the lift under the frame ?

TY

Well Ty you leap frogged me, almost. I'm planning on pulling my springs this summer in an attempt to get some idea what I need for bumpstop drop plates. Most have recommended 2" which are readily available from MAF. I've ran some trails and flexed the axles some and haven't rubbed yet. I'm waiting for some more protection as my truck payments are just about over and I'll feel more comfortable about trail riding the thing.

I could see how pulling springs would help check that out . If I had the front bumpstops when I was at Posers , I would have installed lowered bumps after stuffing the tires ... Might have to make an excuse to go back there

I've read the 2" rule also .. but I'd also like to check it in a controlled stuff . I can see a small error costing me a ripped off flare  Better to get it down to zero error first then wheel care free .

I'm looking forward to seeing Slee's new slider spy photos in Feb. 05 . I'm hoping they will also address the fact that my front tire is now spewing ice/slush up the side of the 80 . My 16x10 Rock Crawlers will exacerbate this a bit more ...

TY

I don't think you put the lift under the frame, you put a tire between the runners.....

Why don't you try that off-camber parking lot stripe paint or the formidable pile of cigarette butts that one guy mentioned a few weeks back?

Landtank - just use some 2x3 or whatever tubing and get longer bolts - all this for the back. If you need something for the front, I have an extra set of Enery suspension bumpstops that with the 2" sq tube lower just right for my set up. If you need any of this, just let me know and it's yours.
