As mentioned on the 7X registration threads, this truck came to us by way of Wayne Smith (aka @crushers).

Ex fire truck in service with Aisin Corp. Now sporting a low deck drop side tray that Wayne crafted. Sweet running 3F with 12,000 miles since new.

More to follow but the first big change is new shoes for the princess - 6x16 Prado rims with proper bs and some Toyo M55s in 235/85 R16.

Ward doesn't even have a real engine. Why would you waste time looking at his fuel filter.
He has something called a 3F. I assume the "F" stands for Ford.
 
23300-38010 is a 23300-38010 on a gasser.

I am so budget constrained these days that I had to buy used pizza cutters. As for "substantial" they are E rated TRUCK tires, not SUV tires. :)

Im using 235x85x16 Desert Hawks A/T, something nice and cheap from Indonesia. They drive quite good,havent tried them off road, but I know from previous experience if you let enough air out they will climb sand dunes as good as anything else.
Mine are speed limited to 120kph.

I wonder why Wayne let that go. He seemed to like using it around the farm.

TRAY / TIRE CLEARANCE

Some have questioned the spacing from top of tire to deck structure when loaded. There is about 5" of clearance from the top of the tire to the bottom of the deck. PO (Wayne) built the tray to be as low as possible, but with room for spring compression under load. In addition to 5" clearance when empty, he also installed air bags for additional lift. The box frame around the perimeter of the tray looks deep, but the tray material is thin, but strong.

Here is a snap facing the rear of the truck when under construction:

Side shot during construction, a good view of the deck vs. tire. The tall skinnies I installed chewed up some clearance, but I think we will be OK. Picking up two pallets of Terrain Tamer parts tomorrow, so we will see what 6 or 700 kg do to spring flex and clearance:

MORE TIRE STUFF

Picked up around 1,800 lbs of Terrain Tamer gear today. I pumped up the air bags to provide another 1.5" of lift and a more firm spring rate. Total tire/deck clearance over 6" with very little flex when the pallets went on the truck. Very stable ride with plenty of grunt from the 3F. For the mossbacks in the crowd (no names, just view prior posts :)) the OEM gasser does a fine job of moving the load.

Lots of folks comment - at the dump, on the ferry, at the lumber yard - universal enthusiasm and enjoyment.

This term (#2 below) is quite popular in Western Washington due to ideal conditions for growth of surface moss, mildew, grunge, etc. :)

I would never refer to a MUD brother as a large or sluggish largemouth.....

Well with out the air bags the tray would be dragging on the tyres. I was only trying to help but thought it might sound a bit mossback so I deleted the post. :)

I would never refer to an Australian as a mossback :)

You may be right about rubbing with full load (around a ton) if bags not inflated. Its been crazy busy around here so for expediency's sake I unloaded the parts without deflating the bags.

Would have been nice to see how much clearance they add under load. Maybe next time.
