FJ70 on FZJ80 Chassis?? Anybody?

Bought a 87 FJ70 3F 4 speed W/O power steering
Thinking about to get a a FZJ80 chassis and shorten it (from the middle), and shift the fj70 body over.

Has anybody done that before, any pics can share??

On 4wdmonthly there is a dude putting a 75 series cab on a 80 series chassis the four front mounts need to be removed and the rear cab mounts is pretty much same spot as the 80 so he explained not to sure about the swb though

I have noticed that the width of the fzj80 chassis is about 6cm wider then the fj70's, so even when fitting the 750.16 wheels may look HUGE.

shortening out of the middle is not so easy as that is the tapered section - also there is not much distance from the front and rear suspension link bits - limiting what you can cut

a far better option is to put a 75 / 79 series cab on

shortened 80 series frame, 80 seres axles with 6" slee suspension, 1HD-T engine, top mounted intercooler 4.88 R&P ARB lockers .. etc etc etc ..

those are ( were ) 39.5 TSL in 10" wide wheels with 4.5 backspacing ..

In a SWB, best to probably just convert the front to a 3-link on coilovers and SoA the rear. It can result in massive flex without all the downfalls of 80 suspension as well as less work.


I did put a 62 on an 80 chassis. Shortened it by 5”. Build thread is here....

Wheelbase was stock 70 series ( he didn't stretch body ) and tranny was H151

best combo, i am trying to figure out the wheelbase length for 40 with similar engine and trans.
