I just did that fix last night with the Hillman bushings. Part # 882995 at Lowes. $3.xx a piece. I bought 4 just in case. Got them home, sanded off a little on the ID and cleaned my pin up. Sanded/filed a little off the OD and greased them and they slid right in. My shifter is solid now. No slop at all.
Ok I’m convinced. Next time! Do you need to use fine grit sandpaper to keep everything smooth?

What about forward/backward slop? The regular bushings fixed my side to side but it’s still loose forward and back. So much so that the indicator sometimes looks like I’m in a different gear.

Check the actual shifter linkage that your shifter handle attaches to. There are two rubber isolators and bushings on either end that wear out, allowing the forward/backward slop. Adjust your shifter position when you replace them per the FSM.

Hi dog. I used a micrometer to see what size I needed to mill down too. I took my time. I used a drill as a lathe and a rough file initially and then smoothed them out with sandpaper. Then cleaned and greased them. Slid right in. 0 movement now.
