Does anyone have some "special insider" knowledge of where and how to get a hold of a set of aftermarket tuned headers for the 3FE I6 w/o paying $400+??? The cheapest i've seen them are for $399...but somehow feel my $$$ is worth more in my pocket. Has anyone possible ever fit some other headers to a cruiser, possibly ones from an I6 Jeep 4.0L or even an aluminum head from one of those 4.0Ls for that matter. May sound ridiculous, but am wondering if possible. And no, i am not asking for anyone's opinion on the headers, i've already formulated my own from experience. Paired with a custom ram AIR intake and a TRU-DUALs exhaust set up, along with a few electrical upgrades, the 3FE is capable of +200 HP and +285lbs of torque. Not to mention that there are centrifugal turbo chargers that fit this engine also, so i am sure better numbers are out there somewhere. Brings me to another question then, what are the best VERIFIED power ratings someone has ever SEEN on a 3FE, whether an FJ80 or FJ62? thanks for all input, you'll receive a check and $25 gas card in the mail in 4-6 weeks.

I don't have the answer you're looking for (sourc for cheap headers) but have you checked into the 3FE mailing list - pretty hardcore group, lots of info there on modding the 3FE...

Yes. Come on over. The general thought over there is that the headers are not worth it. There was some talk of some Pace Setter headers from AU, but I don't know what happened to that. Some guys have opened the cast iron head up with SS Chevy valves, bored out TB, and a single 2 1/2" exhaust with only one cat. And, when it's time to rebuild, find yourself a 2F shortblock to build and stuff it in. Ask me how I know :)

Maybe there aren't many aftermarket header offerings for a 3FE because there really isn't a need? Looking at the stock manifold you can see that from the exhaust outlet from the head to where the manifold ends the distance is about 6-8 inches or so. The stock cast iron header passages are pretty large to begin with and still have plenty of iron to hog out more if you massage the engine to the point of needing larger outlets. They are quieter than steel tubing headers as well.
What the others said about checking out the 3FE list.
