Thanks to many posts here I got this rig running well. Still bit of a newbie but I'm getting my hands dirty. First off, the carb rebuild (thanks to Jim C) gave it new life. Replacing the exhaust manifold gaskets stopped the surging and chitty chitty bang noises at low speeds. This rig runs better than ever-as new. I wish I had done this the day I bought the truck...you live and learn. Thanks for the great posts...couldnt of done it without them. Many happy miles ahead....

what type of surging were you experiencing

At low speeds it was hesitating, surging, and noisey. replacing the gaskets solved the problem.
was it doing it at idle as well, cause mine is doing the same thing, and it has low power coming off of idle
Do you have a 60?How big a hassle was it to do your manifold gasket? Did you do it
yourself? Did you use two gaskets or one?

turn around for the Jim C rebuild was about 2 months. well worth it. I took lots of pics when I removed it. Very helpful when re-installing

not at idle. only when starting off, especially when climbing a hill.

I did the carb install. I had a local wrench install the gaskets. 1) Replaced headpipe gasket and 2) repalced egr pipe gasket at exhaust manifold underside.
