Ok, I bought a 4-speed clutch fork from a guy about 2 weeks ago, had the check come back to me tonight with a wrong address. This is bad fawking news! I need my ride running on Sunday so am in a bind to get a new deal FAST. Anyone in the Portland (OR) area have one they might want to sell? Even if you are a ways away, maybe we can work out some kind of deal with shipping that could ensure that I get it by Friday or Saturday.

Ok, I bought a 4-speed clutch fork from a guy about 2 weeks ago, had the check come back to me tonight with a wrong address. This is bad fawking news! I need my ride running on Sunday so am in a bind to get a new deal FAST. Anyone in the Portland (OR) area have one they might want to sell? Alright let me see if I can get the wording straight and not get myself in trouble. I bought a 1980 FJ40 a while ago and, while it was roadworthy, I found I needed most of its parts for other projects. I cut the rear half of the tub off to use for a trailer and found that the cowl was quite rusty under the bondo. In fact, after all the vibration of the sawzall everything steel just kinda disintigrated leaving only the aluminum VIN tags and the frame which has matching numbers and is in remarkably good condition considering how shot the body was. I hung onto these parts thinking somebody might bend a frame one day and need them. I would be willing to sell them for whatever seems fair. Its possible that somebody in California might have bent a frame horn and just need me to send that part. I'm sure I could make arrangements for that.
There was once some discussion about where the title lies, in the body or the frame and I believe the consensus was if the frame has the VIN stamped in it then it owns the title. The rig I have could easily live again if I were to buy an aftermarket aluminum or fiberglass tub and I would feel no guilt about riviting my VIN tags to the new tub.
If you are trying to clean up a stolen or otherwise ill-gotten rig by tranfering VIN tags then you are a criminal and should be caught and punished to the fullest extent of the law but if you want to put your good body on my frame and tags you should be able to do so with the blessing of the authorities.
