Recently had head replaced in my 60 (runs great by the way). Seems like heater doesnt work as good now. It gets kinda warm but not wonderfully hot like it did before. Also the rear heat doesnt work at all now other than blow cold air. Could this be related to my head replacement? I had a mechanic do it so i wasnt involved in the process other than finding the head. Maybe i just need to burp the system now? Thanks guys. Gabe

Are you sure the heater hoses are still connected to the engine and that they're connected correctly?

What condition was the cooling system in? Was it dirty and could he have let loose rust or sediment that could have plugged it?

Havnt looked to check the heater hoses. The rust and sediment concept could be plausable but the heater i know worked awesome before i took it in and the rear heater too. Ill check the hoses tomorrow during our blizzard here lol. Shoulda checked this before the snow. Thanks

Did the mechanic put a new thermostat in for you? He might have neglected to install the "O" ring gasket; that will do exactly what you describe.

Does the engine temp gauge get into the normal range? If so the thermostat is probably good.

It's pretty easy to back flush the heater core with a few garden hose fittings and some hose clamps. That did the trick for my heater.

Temp gauge seems to run cooler now than before. Seems to only get up a little over the cold line which i guess is good??

That is not good. The engine should run near the center of the normal range.
Normally the temp will rise until the engine reaches the thermostat temp then level off.

I would make sure the thermostat is working and that both gaskets are in place.

Thanks Dan, after running it today all day im convinced the thermostat has to just be stuck open as the engine temp barely got over the cold mark all day. I have a feeling after i follow that lead ill solve my problem
