Three's an FJ40 in CT I'm flirting with as well but the guy hasn't emailed me back yet.

Dave, I work in the next town over from that, let me know if you want me to look at it. Or, if you're coming down, you better make time for a visit. ;)

And I don't think you've mentioned an "old" rig yet............... :D

dave, i personally think the red 40 is not the way to go. the 55 is bad ass and can be cleaned up pretty easily...

the v8 60... if you are looking to gp back to something that size... i know you like the older look but have you even slightly thought about an 80? it is an amazing vehicle. i LOVE mine. on and off th trail it is a great truck. besides, if you get into one i will soon have a full set of OME heavy springs i would "donate" to the Dave Keeping A Truck For More Than One Year charity.

That's cruel man!

cruel but deserved. :)

I'm very tempted by https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=132163

But I think the V8 FJ60 is #1 on the list right now. It serves all of our needs very well. I loved my FJ62, big—sure—but otherwise a great truck for us. Problem was it rusted out from under me. The V8 FJ60 is in STELLAR shape, With the V8 it wil do th etowing we need no porblem, and the price is actually IN my budget unlike every other truck I look at. :) :)

It's already lifted, add some sliders, I'd keep the smallish snow tires that are on it for the road and do a set of 34x10.5 Swampers for the trail, maybe add 4.11 diffs later on in necessary.

I promised Sara I will give it some time before buying anything so we'll see what pops up in the next couple of months. I'll be looking for a shotgun seat at teh April meeting runs. :)

hmm we gotta find you a loner dave!!!
have you thought about "Test driving" one of the local dealerships fj cruisers. (says with a maniacal voice and evil grin)

I think thats a little over his budget!

You'll need knuckles, mini or cruiser with the ears to bolt the calipers to.
Rotors, 60 or 62 are vented.
Calipers, v6 4runner are the bigger ones.
new seals etc since it will all be apart.
Two guys could do it in a day. (with beer)
I've got plenty of garage space!

Can we paint the 4Runner and the 40 OD at the same time?
Couple of gallons, some rollers, some beer and burgers,
a real redneck weekend!

Dave do some reading on it. Shouldn't be hard to do it at all. I am going to do the swap using an FJ62 axle. I think that Camcruiser did a thread on this which was really good.

<edit>
It was 1973Guppie and the link is https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=137225 if you wanted to do it down here I could give you a hand at my place I should have all the tools except the 54mm socket.

I've got the socket if you need it.

FYI... Ive decided to pas on this one. probably a GREAT buy for th right person, but a bit too "classic" for my needs, it would take a bit too much coin to get it into the kind of shape I'd want it in for Sara and the boy to drive around in.

Jason Peters went and test drove it for me so he'll chime in I expect.... it's got a very loud, hopped up Corvette V8 in it, runs like a scalded cat apparently. Needs the front drum brake adjusted for sure, but with all that power, you'll likely want to do the disk brake upgrade right away.

Some diamond plate along the bottom, a mystery whats under it. Intensely ugly/crappy hand paint job. Decent interior in need of new seat foam. Every thing works, little to know "booty fab" with the electrical or other stuff.

I think I've exhausted my FJ40-FJ55 options and decided to find the best FJ60 I can for the money. Still waiting on the local guy with the lovely V8 '87 I looked at a few years ago.

I was waiting for you to post Dave:)
It was not a bad fj55 really. nothing missing as far as the odds and ends of the little parts and everything worked, like the rear window and the lights on top on the rack. there rack was a nice 8 clamp tradesman. there was surface rust here and there on the body but I think that was more due to the really bad paint job.
alittle aircraft stripper and it would clean up nicely for some new paint.
it was orginally blue and white. the guy had a folder 2 inches thick ove every recent for anything ever done to it. so you can see exactly what was done to the motor.
the motor was pretty loud but ran nicely and pushed a brand new set of 33x12.4 bfg Mt's reather easily. I don't begin to understand the mysteries of drum brakes but they worked a bit better once it was warmed up?? but I tend to down shift anyway so I am more of an engine braker so I didn't really notice the brakes too much.
what I liked about it was that while it was somewhoat of a project it is inspected and driveable and any upgrades or fixes could be done to it while keeping it on the road. and everything worked.
what I did not like about it was the paint, but that is also fixable while keeping it on the road.
HTH someone and I hope it finds a home it was a nice piggy just needing alittle tlc
Jason

Sara and I went back and forth on it a lot this weekend as she's trying her best to get me what I wan while keeping her eye on the budget. Ultimately, once we started adding things up it didn't make sense for us.

This would be a perfect truck for Nat or Nate though, don't you think? One of the younger members with the kind of enthusiasm to tame the old girl. :) :)

Just found out the V8 FJ60 I was hoping to buy is gone. He swapped it with poor Wally (Poor Wally's Landcruiser Emporium) for an FJ80. Said he was having some engine issues and didn't want to sell it to me that way but Wally wanted it, problems and all, so....

I must admit I'm pretty bummed right now. :(
