FJ55 carpet and headliner questions.

I'm currently working on a 74' FJ55. Not a full blown restoration, just a good daily driver. I'm looking for carpet and headliner. I will be Rhinolining the whole floor and sides of the tub. I know Specter has a carpet kit, but I need to know if it covers everything or has gaps where the original front bench is. I have buckets. I also want to know if it has the holes in the tranny hump cut out, because I have a V8 and auto conversion, so the holes will be different.
As for the headliner, has anyone used the Specter one? Is it a bear to install? I have considered going a cheaper route (carpet on fiberboard), but I dont want it to end up all janky.
I'm not set on buying all this stuff from Specter, it just seems that there isnt a whole lot else out there for the Pigs. Any feedback will be appreciated. Thanks, Hodag :beer:
 
I just got my headliner from Spector for my 72 pig and I am putting Reflectix, the insulating blanket on the roof (I POR-ed the roof from the inside and patched all the holes). I took it to an uphostery shop that actually wanted $450 plus :( to install it. They claim it is a 7-8 hour job. They did tell me that the headliner was good quality but for that labor cost I plan on doing it myself. I hear it's a real pain but with 3M adhesive spray #77 and a helper hopefully it won't be too bad. There aren't a lot of choices out there tho an auto uphostery shop may be able to make you one. I went w/ Spector since it should last for many years.
 
The carpet kit from SOR is nice and is worth the money. However, it is impossible to get oil stains out of. It does not cover under the bench seat, so you will have an area without carpet if you are running buckets. The piece of carpet on the tranny hump does not have any holes cut in it. You will also need to find a way to adhere the carpet to the tailgait and the back of the rear seat. I also bought their headliner. That 7-8hrs. of work seems like a lot for a professional. It took me about 6 hrs. and mine looks like a saggy piece o' crap, but looks 50 times better than it did without it. It took me over an hour just to get all of the metal rods in the headliner. Then you need to cut small holes in those pockets so that the metal rods remain in their intended positions. It is very hard to get your headliner tight if you are not replacing your window rubbers. The headliner is meant to be glued and then tucked under all of the window rubber. I also had to trim my headliner a lot to get it to fit right on the pillars, as the headliner I bought did not line up properly with them. that was OK though, they give you plenty of fabric to mess with. If you want a factory looking headliner, do not replace it yourself unless you are ready to relplace all of your window rubber and have a high quality upholstry adhesive. if you want to have a saggy thing that looks as ready for a safari as the pig itself, install it yourself.
 
Not sure about the carpet kits, didn't put any over my rhino lined tub.
I used a charcoal grey indoor/outdoor carpet from Home Depot. It was there "premium" grade, looked much better than factory (in my opinion). Cost of glue and carpet was ~ $20-30.

How did you attach the carpet to the tailgate. Have the SOR carpet kit, installed by the PO, and the tailgate piece was just sitting in the back of the truck.

Use contact-adhesive...you should be able to pick it up at most flooring supply shops (maybe Home Depot). Make sure you coat the tailgate and the carpet backing - let it dry until stringy and press together (be sure it's strait - will not be able to adjust). Leave the tailgate down in the sun for a while....and it's not coming off :D.
