Bought this 55 with the plans to build it to replace my 85 Pick-up.
After wheelin my truck this summer I have decided to keep the truck for now.
I dont really need the 4 doors or extra space.

2F / 4 speed / all stock right down to the hub caps.
Blue (greenish)/white but not original color - original is Red/white.
Minimal rust - roof is solid - no carpet - aux gas tank - crap non-stock seat fabric.
Could use a carb rebuild I believe, it can be hard to start at times.
Drivers door got dented but is currently fix and waiting paint.
Confer Roof Rack.
Extra Rear 1/4 Panel Glass for both sides.

Just looking to get back what I got into this 55.
$3600 / obo

Here is a pic ..................

NEW : Interior pics added below .................

Say what?
= is it drivable from SF to Southern Cal?
= will it still pass smog?
= can a fella get some pics that better show condition of interior, engine compartment, body and frame?

GLWS:cheers:
Butt

I would not suggest driving from SF to any great distance. I trailered it from LA almost a year ago. I would suggest trailering and then a couple local drive before any distance. The 55 is solid but the carb reliability is questionable.

More pics tomorrow.

Might be open to trades also- maybe a 1st Gen 4Runner, 2nd Gen 4Runner, Warn 8-9000lbs winch + cash, 37" tires + cash, Yamaha WR250, Snap-On Tool Box, etc. Hit me with ideas.

Just need the 55 out of my driveway asap.

Thanks

please > pics' engine compartment , frame . and

STILL PASS SMOG?

Looks like a nice truck. I may be interested, but shipping to FL would probably kill it for me.

I don't care so much about CA smog, but I'd like to see pics of any rust areas. Pigs are so prone.

The seat covers have kind of a period correct retro look to them, BUT how are the seats under the covers?
Are the rear 1/4 windows scratched up/cracked? Why are the replacements needed?

I have a '85 Runner, but not sure I'm ready to part with it. Shipping both trucks cross country (sight unseen) would be pretty risky. Plus, I would need money to trade.

Why is there latches to hold the hood down?

Something isn't right. While the turn signals on the front would be easy change and since they is no lights on the aprons it could be a 78. But rear tail lights changed with the 78 model and these are earlier.

Could be one of three things. Someone went to a lot of work to install earlier tail lights. This is two bodies pieced together. Or someone switched the VIN tags on to a earlier body.

Just like you I would have to see it in person before buying. Curious is it registered now? While doing a search to make sure the 78 did have the later tail lights I also noticed a 78 from CA is about the hardest to register in CA with it's almost impossible emissions to find. Your price seems fair just to many things not matching up.

Well guys I am not pulling a scam here that is for sure. Those of you that know me, know I would not do that.

The VIN tag is original, not changed.

I do not see anywhere that would indicate it is two bodies joined together, there is no carpet so that would be obvious.

I have never seen any documentation as to the difficulty of smogging a 78 55 in CA. If you could provide that info that would be great.

and the hood latches ? come on man.......how does that indicate something is wrong ?

So no, it is not one of the three things you mentioned.

Still doesn't explain why this has pre 9/77 tail lights. These are pictures of a 78 that sold in Az Finding pictures of the back end of a 78 wasn't real easy. Not many of them around. I wanted more than SOR to comfirm 78 did have the later tail lights. If your was around Oct 77 I would say if may have been a crossever that still had the earlier tail lights. June of 78 was well into the 78 model year.

Here is another thread that brought up 78 emissions in CA. It depends on if it was originally a CA or Fed spec emission. If you do a little research you will see what a strange monster exhaust manifold the CA spec cruisers had the couple of years before 79 and the CAT. https://forum.ih8mud.com/vehicles-trailers-sale-wanted/274299-fj55-pig-4-sale.html

I've been in the market for the right FJ55 for over fifteen years. But like you wouldn't trade for a vehicle you couldn't do a personal inspection I won't buy one with unanswered questions. You would be in the same boat.

As for the three I would want a switched VIN before the other two. I doubt any DMV office would catch that. Emission could be a big deal if your in CA also the current status of the Title. I believe if not registered for the road it needs to have a inoperative title. Then pass a inspection to be registered again. I don't think you did anything illegal. You may not know why it has early tail lights but it does. You might ask the question in the 55 section. Maybe there were some reason for this. Early pre 3/69 didn't have a production date on the A pillar and have seen many earlier cruisers title as later ones but it different with a production date stamped in a VIN tag.

Good luck with your sale.
