Buying a 77-78 FJ45 in Canada

Hi Jamie,

I bought my FJ45 from BC last September. I paid more than $15K for mine, but it was in better than good condition. Of course, it depends on how you define "good"... Since then, I've had no difficulty finding additional projects to finance, some of whcih were required for safety certification/licencing purposes (i.e., new brakes), others were admittedly for fun (I.e. auxiliary gas tank). My point is the purchase price can easily become the cheap part...

Good luck with your search,

James

love the truck, love the splits, that original tailgate with gray 'T O Y O T A' ..... ;)

Hey thanks J. - I appreciate your advice, comments and support during the process. I've logged a hundred miles or so now, and all systems seem to be functioning well, so I'm taking a first road trip to see my dad this weekend for Father's Day...

Cheers, James

I'm not sure that a rust-free 45 exists in BC or Alberta.

That price would get you one in good condition though. By good condition i mean solid frame with fixable body rust and good running motor/drive train.

I can see $5000 not getting you much but I would think for $10,000 to $15,000 a fj45 with a good frame and body must be out there, might need a few touch ups,,,,,,

.

you know, at one time awl-teq had his 77fj45 for sale in calgary, he's changed his mine since, but at the time he was asking 10,000 and it needed everything, i think it ran and drove, but it wasnt in the best shape. maybe he never would have got ten for it, but goes to show what they're worth to oil wealthy albertans.

Well.............I wouldn't say it needed everything :D Just tires, bushings, TRE's and bed rust repair. One thing it does need is seats now ;)

No it's not for sale. She's mid resto-mod now :bang:

I see what your saying about over seas,,,,,,, I heard in Quebec you can't drive right hand cars anymore if that happens in Ontario then the truck would be no good.

quebec has no new imports and you don't live there ;), even so... if you get one in "pre-ban" you will be fine.

ever notice how many british cars there are in ontario?

good luck on your search.

cheers
