Hello all!
Recently installed the 1973's Fj40 hardtop after about a year of running w/o it. Unfortunately, ran into some unforeseen problems. Namely the passenger door no longer shuts properly and more to the point of this inquire; the rear flip up door is sticking. In fact, it appears that the door is no longer centered in the opening. A screw driver is required, in conjunction with operating the door handle to "pop" it open.

My question is: Is there an adjustment which will allow the door too be re centered? The FSM and Haynes manuals do not mention nor illustrate such an adjustment. Ordinarily, I would just attempt to loosen the screws and seed what happens but the hinge plates, door and jamb fasteners are painted over. I would rather go directly to the proper fasteners and minimise the damage to the paint.

Appreciate in advance the assistance.

I just acquired my first FJ40 and I have the same problem.

The rear hatch wasn't attached when I test drove it, and when I picked it up it had been reattached to the hinges for the haul home.
I'll try to grab a photo once it stops raining, but there is about a 1/2" space between the hatch and the left vertical of the hatch opening, and just about flush on the right.
The hatch is obviously square, but I'm afraid the top is out of square.
Is this normal? should I just let it slide until I pull the top off and reattach paying close attention to square/level when tightening the top to the rest of the body?
