I have to get a tach. My truck sounds like it is going to blow up at 55.

That's very interesting since I always "felt" 62 was as fast as I shoudl cruiser. That the same my dad felt when he bought the truck an drive it home from the Texas coast.

For those who don't know, 71 on 33s is the same as 62 on stock tires.

To the poster that says 83 on 32 with room to go. No way Jose. That's a hair under redline. Any motor wheel feel like it can pull more at redline, but that doesnt mean that your valves won't float and your rod bearings won't spin. Good luck with that!

No way Jose.

Way. A freshly rebuilt 2F (specs in the sigline) will power a Pig on 33s & 4.11s to 85 MPH sustainable, on a flat surface. I chickened out before the engine did. I've taken this engine over 5k a few times at Pismo.

that's precisely why I don't get a tach - it would make me worry

thank you, siir :grinpimp:

driving the 40 across the rez is not for the faint of heart ;p

I've got a SBC with a SM465 followed by a stock t-case. 37" tires, and no speedo. I can go close to 70, but I would'nt feel comfortable without my hydro assist steering to control death wobble.

Your sig does not show up for everyone. A balanced and blueprinted rebuilt 2f is NOT a stock 2F(which is what the OP asked about). Your information is misleading and could lead to premature catastrophic failure.

I personally don't think that 3800 rpm is high, especially with fresh valve springs and good internals. I too have a well built 2f, but I'm not going to tell a guy with an aging stocker to run his or her motor consistently at factory redline.

That's plain stupid.

I have to agree with the book and members that talk about an approximate 65 mph cruise speed. I have 78 with 33 tires, cam, headers, exhaust and non USA electronic distributor curve. 65 feels about ok at 27-2800 rpm. All this at 4700 asl. Of course my best speed improvement was the Saginaw powersteering and shackle reversal kits.

I clocked my 76 on stock gears and 32" tires at 83 mph with a gps and it still had pedal to go. I was running a weber, electric fuel pump and header.

I can easily run with the traffic around Dallas, until I remember what I am driving....
Problem is that the extra pedal doesn't do much....

Maybe on yours...33s, 370s..I run out of balls above 80 before I run out of engine.

My 1980, stock 2F, stock 3.7 diffs and 33" tires is turning 2500 rpm to go 65, which is plenty comfortable to me and it will do that all day without batting an eye. It will go faster but I don't like to run much more than 2500 rpm on the highway for any length of time.
I run 4.11 gears with 33s and stay at about 2700 to 2800 doing the approximate 65 mph. 3k is my cruising limit for long distance. If I need to go faster, I brought the wrong vehicle.

Pterodactyl.

Chevy 350, 3spd on the floor, 33” tires, 4:11s. 80 mph.

When I was young I knew an old guy that was head of a family that owned a shopping center and a lot of rental properties'
Because of his vision, DMV restricted his license to only driving in daylight up and down the road he had business on.
He said if it got any worse he would buy a "fast tractor"
