Hi there,
New 1977 BJ40 owner here in Australia, with not much mechanical knowledge, but I do give things my best shot with Google and forum assistance.
I have found a FJ40, not too sure on year but older than mine, just curious as to what parts might be interchangeable to fit my BJ??? It has pretty bad rust and back doors are different to mine so the body is of little use...

we didn't get square bezels here until 1979, so I'm not sure how the rig in the pic is older.

Three wipers too isent that a bj42 lx model?

Not much is interchangeable fj40s here are 12v, bj40 and 42s are 24v so anything electrical won't work. mostly just body parts and axles. if the rear doors are different they likely are different years. If that's the case most of the body parts would work but hinges and latches changed over the years.

I am pretty sure the FJ40 was 12v as is my BJ40...definitely different years FJ older...I think the PO of my BJ had replaced the windscreen surrounds and doors at some stage...

Believe more then just those parts are from a later 40. The flange on the front side of the door going all the way down and thru the running boards is later than 77. US/LHD was 1/79. Tub is main part main body part. What type of transfer case does it have? What does the Australian compliance have for a date?

I don't know where the Aust compliance plate is and don't think I even saw one, only found the one posted above...The date on the registration paper is 1977...The BJ40 is currently on an Island 800km away and won't get to have a look see for another week or so...not sure on transfer type and not too sure how to tell so will also check transfer case for part ID#'s if image isn't good enough to ID...took some random pic's in my lunch break the other day with this pic of what I assume is the transfer case!!! as I mentioned my mechanical knowledge is very limited!!!

That is a one piece transfer case that ended 7/80 in the US and most markets. Toyota never imported the HJ4X or BJ4X to the US so not sure what kind of engine mounts diesels had. On the Petrol models that style crossmember under the transmission didn't start until 8/80 which was also the start of split transfer case which this is not. Also 8/80 the short and mid wheel base the hand brake moved to the rear axle not the back of the transfer case. When you can put your eye on the cruiser look at the back of the tub mounts to the frame. 1/79+ there only two with plugs in the rear sill of the tub to excess the bolts. Earlier had four body mounts and needed to crawl underneath to remove the usually rusted bolts.
