I have a 58 FJ25 on the way (more info will follow)
I thas no seats and no gas tank.

I can buy a in-car tank of a 78 BJ40. Is the bottom parts same as a FJ25? Can this be made to fit?

I would think you could. you will just some work to do to get the filler hooked up. angle and (i believe) diameter are different. i did something like that by putting a late model 40 tank into a 45

Nice, congratulations on your new FJ25. Photos when possible please. :)
Is it a hard top or soft top? Hard top tanks pretty much the same as 1960s and really early 1970 FJ40 tanks, FJ40 tanks are just a little bigger, but bottom should be the same. Not sure about BJ40 tanks.
And like nuclearlemon said for a soft top filler will need modification.
I have the two tanks from the photos around still if you need any measurements.

Is later 70s different?

Cool, thanks for the photo. Is this the one from Peru?
I think starting late 1971 ( at least in the US) emissions were added to the tank, fuel separator and charcoal canister piping etc. But I think should still work. Would just need to plug or remove extra piping i think, but would need to avoid plugging the venting part of tank.
Then filler hole was moved to the back of tank sometime in 73. I think the BJ40 tank picture you posted is that style tank.

Stolen photo, says its a 9/72 to 12/78 tank

Yes it’s the one from Peru.
I think we can make it work then. Plugging pipes and maybe relocating the filler is better than making a new tank. And shipping from US or Australia will be $$.
The seller will get it out this weekend, hope the bottom of the tank is not rotten, looks like it has been outside a long time.
Thanks for your help.

Yeah, shipping wouldn't be cheep, but I do have a 63ish to 67 tank i could sell you if you dont find a solution.

Hi how are you? Do you have any available gas tank for 25? Like the green one on the pic? Needs one, tks

I should bring up the FJ25s used two different fuel tanks. Soft tops with soft doors the fill was further forward and fuel fill was part of the tank not a separate piece with rubber hose and clamps to connect the fill to the tank. FJ40 fuel tanks were all the same.

Not sure the size of the hard top tanks compared to the 72-1/79 tanks. The tanks from the mid 1960s to the 9/72 were bigger.
