NO it's not gone. Exercised a little admin and made it invisible. I'll bring it back when we know all is safe and sound in the owner's hands. No harm, no foul..... John H. - just want to be safe rather than sorry, downside of a public forum.

Meanwhile, contact Living in the Past to get in line for stuff. :D

understood, never crossed my mind to be honest, but makes sense.

Well damn. I went to retrieve the thread and it's gone. Mr. Amateur Moderator here appears to have lost it.

Lets open this up again. But look at items that were carried over into the forties for a short time. Some of which I wish they would not have dropped.

1. LUG NUTS 23mm and thicker than the lighter 21mm on the later cruisers. The early 63 I have didn't have a rear axle and had fj60 wheels on the front that still had a few of the heavier lug nuts. The 61 I just got had all heavier lug nuts.

2. FUEL PUMP Handle that when pumped primes the carb. Great feature for those who drive there cruiser occasionally. The 61 still has one of these. 63 missing the fuel pump. Took one off a 65 with a 2F so who know when they stopped installing these.

3. PINTLE HOOK Installed on forties at least until 1962. One feature that sets it apart for others cruisers. Makes it look like it was made as a farm and ranch work vehicle. And thats who Toyota targeted back in the late fifties/early sixties.

John, did that '61 still have a tool box left in it? I'd really like to see the lug wrench that fits those big lugs. :D

And don't forget the gas cap!

my 64 45LV still have the fuel pump with the priimer handle on it.

Lost tool box

Hi John

Glad you found my tool kit. You can imagine my horror when I got the cruiser home to Phoenix and found the tool kit was no longer in the tool box. I was going to offer a $5.00 reward for it's return but I thought to myself why be cheap because I really want it back. So I was going to offer a whole $10.00 for it's return and risk all the taffic tie ups with all the cruiserheads dropping everything to look it. Being the kind of guy I'll pay shipping and handling plus the $10.00 even though it must of fallen out in your driveway. Anyone could tell the care that was taken of this cruiser that those tools still in the cardboard box belong with this cruiser. Example the two quarts of water still in the oil after a wrong head gasket replacement ten years ago, the hole drilled in the drain plug of the fuel tank for a new gas line and on and on. I including a picture of the vehicle tool box. You can understand my amazment at how this could of fallen out.

All kidding aside thats a great look tool kit. Does it by chance happen to have a lug wrench for the big nuts? I like most others have never seen one.

Did some one say gas caps?

My 1961 fj40 has the fj25 locking gas cap in pretty shape :) but no key :frown:

My oldest 25 had a locking gas cap and found the key in the dirt on the floor :)

I was planing on posting a picture of the non-locking gas cap be Jim beat me to it. I post a picture any way cause I like the way they look.

Has any one seen a fj25 gas cap on a early soft top? All the early soft top have had the gas fill in the same loction as the hard top but I think they were all 1962. So does the 1961 fj40 soft top have the same as the 25 soft top or hard top?

Been by the mail box all night, still nothing. John how about a clue. US Postal, UPS, FEDEX, DHL. Overnight, second day air, tracking number. I just put away my camping gear after two weeks of camping out waiting for the last Star Wars and now it's over 100 degrees here.

BACK SEATS The forty seats changed but just a little. the arm rest were lower but still had both front and back using the extra bracket on the front of the fenderwell. 1962 dropped the front arm rest probably to make it easier for passengers to get into the back thru the front doors. Easier than climbing over a tailgate. Didn't start bolting the seat to the sides until later maybe 65. John?

Wait a minute I hear a vehicle, maybe a delivery truck, time to get back to the mail box... :)
