Fj105 front axle

People say it can be done though I don't know of anybody to do it yet. Some have tried to get me to be the first. Won't do it though. Won't give up the IFS for anything.

With enough time, money, and skill... sure, it can be done. :) You'll be hero-worshipped if you did just that. The initial issues I see you'd have to hurdle are:
1. HZJ-105 front axles are a bit uncommon
2. I think the HZJ-105 axles have 4.11 r&p gears on it, so you may want the 2004+ UZJ-100 models (earlier UZJ-100 had 4.33 r&p gears)
3. The HZJ-105 chassis has a lot more in common with the FZJ-80, than the UZJ-100

The 105 are never offered with 4.7 V8 engine and this make finding a suitable oil pan almost impossible or would need completely custom oil pan. The crossmember that hold the steering rack are part of the engine mount and would also affect the stiffness of the frame considerably. You would need to make a really good replacement crossmember to retain the frame stiffness.

Steering rack would need to be replaced with 80/105 series recirculating ball unit also. Most of the trail that fit 100 series could be done by IFS anyway.

I would stick with IFS for a while until you really need that extra articulation and clearance. Probably do body lift first to gain clearance. If you still decide to go SFA you could always reverse the body lift.

I see more interest in installing a the 4.7 in an fj80. Still plenty of issues to work out but it would be a lot easier to find a homeless 4.7 than a 105 front axle. All the so called advantages of the 100 series come from the IFS and the 4.7.

It would be cool if someone does it, I would swap in both front and rear 105 full-floater axles at the same time. I beleive 105 wheels had different backspacing than that of the 100. This to keep you drooling:

c'mon mustard, you can't put up a picture like that and leave us hanging...

...mmmmmm, shiny black and it still has the toyota p/n stickers on it. mmmmmmm.....

(I see that other 3rd member wrapped in plastic and caution tape)...

105 front axle is just a 80 axle with 5 wheel studs.

I would just book my 100 into Donahoe's or similar, and get some custom arms, and driveshafts, and improve the IFS travel.

Kinda gotta agree with Shottz and Shed, if you've seen the things that Shottz does with his 100 it would almost lead one to believe that the 100 doesn't need a solid front axle.

I would do it in a second. Its not a IFS VS solid axle thing anyway. Its purely a cool factor to have a 105 style truck here. As Christo said earlier in the Pritchett thread "Nick did it in an 80 with OME+ packers and 33s". The point is if it can be done with a short truck on 33s, why do we all want big lifts and tires +35s? Answer, because they look cool and add clearance. A 100 series with a solid axle and 35s with lots of articulation would be very cool to see running Pritchetts or just running down the highway. I have looked into this and found quite allot of framework to be done, to make it look like the factory. I don't think it would be that difficult though. I wouldn't worry about the oil pan because J springs and taller, take care of any clearance problems. Do it ....

I thought about it, it would be _cool_ to have it done but, but to import a set of axles, wheels from aussie then pay some reputable fabrication shop do, it would cost an used FZJ80.

So I have a spring-over FJ40 running 35" or even 37" tires to play with the rough, and turnning the UZJ100 to run 33".
