Been a lurker on the FJ forum of late, we have decided to add an FJ to the fj62 and Sequoia in the driveway.
Little confused on one thing.....does ATrac come with ALL 4x4 models?, or with just the Upgrade Packages #1 & #2? Is ATrac that big of a deal?...I remember reading somewhere there are pros/cons to it.

I think we have an FJ nailed down and should be at the dealer by this weekend, but I'm teetering back & forth on how "loaded" I want this thing. It does not have Upgrade pkg 1 or 2(a couple things I'd like to have but a few things I don't want or can live w/o) but has most other options...4x4, locker, roof rack, hitch, upgraded, security, Convenience pkg, etc....but no side air bags which I would like to have. This one is $29K currently........and black, btw.

Whaddya'll think?
 
I have done some wheeling in my life. My last true 4x4 was a 69 fj40 chevy 350 four wheel disc. power steering with a rear locker and front arb locker. Having locker's front and rear made a huge difference in wheeling capability. My fj cruiser has the rear locker and ATRAC. I noticed the difference in sand with just the rear locker on and then the ATRAC. I must say I was impressed with the ATRAC! It made for a much smoother transition while climbing soft sand banks in and out of river beds. All in all I knew how a rear locker would work, and I knew what a front locker would do and the limitations that come with a front locker (mainly Steering) would feel like. I felt like the ATRAC was well worth it. Some people here have found a way to hack the ATRAC.... meaning being able to activate it without paying for it. That might be something you might be interested in.

Get the version with a rear locker and without A-Trac. This will save you lots of money. To get A-Trac all you have to do is buy the A-Trac switch and intall it. Everything else is there. There are thread on this forum on how to install it. It will be the best spent $60 bucks you will ever spend. P.S. I can't think of any down side to having A-Trac.
 
As stated above, make shure you get the rear locker. Must have it to hack the A-TRACK. I wheel a fj40 & a J**p, both have arb lockers front & rear. The A-TRACK is a different animal, but impressed the heck out of me. Do it!
 
I would check a little more on the pricing. I got a silver package #2 fully loaded for $30,147 it had every option possible including the billet sills, armrest, and convenience package....29K for a basic model seems high to me..
 
Thanks for the comments....thats kinda what I'm thinking on the price based on what I've seen in the FJ Forum. We really haven't discussed $$ yet other than his initial quote over the phone, we got our Sequoia from the same guy...straightforward guy, not the cheesy "I need to go talk to my mgr." lot troller sales dude. We'll see.
 
I got the base model. Didn't come with A-trac. I didn't even buy the button. I just jumped the two wires, and it works. Also, you can get it to work with the rear locker on at the same time by doing other mods also listed on this site.;)
