Toyota's plan to deceive is working. Notice the couple of posts about FJ-40s we have in the FJ section? That is exactly the kind of confusion toyota wants so they can sell those FJs. Its a sad day when toyota has to deceive to sell cars, but the FJ is based on an FJ-40 right?

I wonder if Ford gets this kind of stuff about the new Mustang and the GT.

It's not a deception. They don't want the average joe on the street to confuse it with the luxury flagship model so they don't call it a Land Cruiser. It IS a logical evolution of the 40 series for the US market. It is fine for them to link it to the FJ-40 series LC. It is, as has been discussed many times before, the same mindset as the origonal LC concept. An inexpensive, utilitarian, rugged "adventure" type wagon. It's not as much of any of those things as the FJ-40, but it is all of those things in 2005 terms.

Linking a H2 with an HMMWV is far more of a deception. GM seems to be doing pretty OK with that.

It's all a conspiracy!!!

Come on, it is what it is, and hell we don't even know down to the last detail what it will be yet.

It's not like Toyota is NOT making something that everyone else is......

Gumby is right.

Give me a break already!
Yeah I'm still pissed that they tried to sell a twin turbo Supra, they were really decieving people cuz' the original was only a single turbo

blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah

Who are they trying to decieve? Most of the world has no idea what one is. I don't believe they are really trying to apeal to the "cruiser" crowd. How may of us bought one new off the lot. I sure didn't. If you want a real cruiser they offer it. Uzj100. Mine is bone stock and could certainly out wheel my 78 fj40 in its stock form. Toyota is in the buisness of selling new cars and trucks. The fjcuiser may or may not do well. If it does they will make more, if not they'll drop it. I like the idea of a toyota alternative to the honda and subaru's that you see so many of on the road. The price of gas is slowly climbing, I sure would like to drive something that gets more than 14mpg and still has 4wd. I had a new Tacoma, but that got maybe 16mpg. Good luck to Toyota. I hope they sell a bunch and it is as reliable as their other products. If so I may buy a new one. I think it looks as good as another 2007 truck. I don't really know what looks good anyway. I drive a 1978 fj40, what do I know about style.

I had written a big long reply, but I really only have one thing to say....

Thank you! :D

Come on guys we are talking about an FJ40 not a F***ing yuppy ride. I don't want to see those lame arse people on the trail flipped over when they have no business there. If you like the concept FJ40 then go buy a ford exploder, dodge durango, or nissan xterra. They really need to stay with the theme of what an FJ40 is. It is not a 4x4 station wagon! It is not a soccer moms hoopdee! It is a vehicle that stands up to its name "Foreign Jeep L A N D C R U I S E R" joking about the foreign jeep part. So until they offer a concept FJ40 Landcruiser that has the tilt down windshield, real four wheel drive, locking hubs, locker front and rear, 9.5" ring gear, with a spring over suspension (with a warning for those that don't know how to drive a tall short wheel based rig), *manual* or automatic transfer case, open fenders, disc brakes front and rear, and a good spot to mount a which. Then for now they can piss off and sell it to the europeans. I would prefer them not to and just go back to the drawing boards and look at a 1976 cruiser and go from there. :flipoff2:

Thank you and have a nice day!

FJ40on35s, dude, tell us how you really feel. :D

I am a fan of Toyota vehicles, all of them, not just the Land Cruiser. So when people say that anyone who wants a Xterra type vehicle should just go buy it from Nissan I want to slap them. Why would you WANT to push people to another brand? Even if YOU don't like the vehicle that Toyota builds to compete with say the Xterra, that doesn't mean other folks won't like it and the more vehicles Toyota sells in general the more 'play' money they have to develop more wild ideas. I would never advocate someone buying a vehicle other than a Toyota, so I like the fact that Toyota makes many models, in many price ranges, so no matter what you're looking for you can hopefully find a well built, reliable, smart engineered vehicle from Toyota to suit your needs.

If others feel that every vehicle other than the Land Cruiser is a horrible representation of Toyota, then that's stupid IMO. Look at the numbers, Toyota is not all about the Land Cruiser anymore, I think the torch was passed from Land Cruiser to Toy Truck around 1980, maybe before, since then Toyota has been more about giving the public what it wants, which is well designed vehicles, in ALL SIZES, not just a Land Cruiser, but the Camry, Tacoma, Echo, Tundra, Sienna, Corolla, Tercel, those are their 'bread and butter' sales so to speak. I would even say the 'other' vehicles have saved Toyota, if all they ever made was the Land Cruiser, they wouldn't still be around, they don't sell enough of them to stay in business. Instead they gave the public what the public wanted (sales = they delivered what the public wanted). This case is no different there is a market for a Xterra type vehicle, Nissan is already there with the Xterra, Toyota wants a piece of that, so Toyota will take things learned from the semi-painful first years of the Xterra and improve on it, then undoubtedly release a vehicle better than the Xterra...a brilliant business move for Toyota I think.

Wow. None of which were offered on any FJ-40...ever.

Promise?

Toyota is not all about land Cruisers. It makes the best small trucks in the world, period. It based the new Toyota FJ (No cruiser) on those trucks. What more do you want? a 30 year old vehicle nobody bought when it was new?
Ford tried that with the T-bird. didn't work out too well for them.
