FJ Cruiser bumper with 8274?

Is it possible? What can it look like?

Here is a preview of what I came up with thanks to others who I got my inspiration from.

Specs bumper:

Schedule 40 1.25" pipe .25" wall thickness
Main support 2x4 .25" tubing
1/4" support brackets
total bumper weight ~85lbs.

Still need a few hours of work including trimming the grill but this is the general look.

I guess you mean the pipe Well, I was against it as well at the beginning. I have a JD^2 setup in my garage and I was all ready to order .120 DOM. No one around my area had any in stock and the price was nuts. HREW is <DOM and also hard to get. So I went online and read about schedule 40 pipe, which eveyone had. After reading ACTUAL LAB TESTING reports comparing HREW, DOM, and schedule 40, it was evident that schedule 40 was fine for my application.

Now I've read many threads on Pirate about pipe so if any one want to argue that point, please don't do it here. I just wanted to show a new bumper design and a winch that has been around for 30+ years on a 07 FJ Cruiser.

I agree, nor argument and I understand your reasoning.

I also have a JD2 bender (model 32) and, yes, I'm paying ~$4/ft for 1.75"/.12 DOM tubing.

And, yes, bring on the pics and follow up to the design...

The bumper looks good so far. My business builds tube bumpers for the FJ. It is hard to tell from your photo if you tied the mounts back to the frame behind the 4 bolt stock mounting plate. If you already did, disregard the following.

Look at the drwing below and you will see a 1/4" plate that welds perpendicular to the main for bolt plate and goes back an ties into the 12MM capture not already in the frame and a little below and behind the 4 bolt plate. If you run the plate up in front of the 4 bolt plate and weld it on the front it makes for a very strong mount as your winching will pull against that side plate on edge as well as the 4 bolt plate.

Hi Stan,

Thank you for your input. I actually made a plate that ties into the two threaded bolts on the side of the fame and attaches to the mounting base of the bumper mount where I have about 1.25" of extra material. I plan to install two .25" in bolts on the top of the main stock mounting plate and two below. In the picture the bumper is only attached with 7 of the 8 bolts (lost one) and with no bracket to reinforce but I'm also not driving or pulling on it. I just put it on to share and take final measurements for cutting up my grill.

did three good pulls over the weekend and a couple of jerk and tugs (FJ40 vs FJ Cruiser). No give, no stretch, no changes. So far so good.
