Location
KY, now Okinawa Japan
Hello From Japan,
Just bought a 1991 FJ 75 through the military. It is in great shape and runs well, will run fine after i rebuild the 3F carb. I am in the process of registering in Japan (Headache but possible) and am wanting to know if anyone knows anyone who has one in the US. I am applying for registration in KY but it is not looking good, seems the VIN # doesn't match (Imaging that). I have 4 more years here so i will continue to pursue the US Plate; any help anyone can provide will be greatly appreciated!!
I own the following Cruisers in the US now:
1978 FJ 40
1978 FJ 45
The following are located on Okinawa:
1988 BJ 74
1991 FJ 75
1995 BJ 78

Will try to post a picture or two (No luck, too big)...hope to hear from all of you Cruiser folks...S/F, Spark.,..

No luck on the photos, mine are all way too big. If you want to see a pic e-mail me and I will send...S/F, Spark...

1995 BJ 78

:

Yes someone does have one in the US. I think these might be left overs from a japanese donation to the 1st Gulf War.
No aircon or heater.

BJ78 ,more likely an LJ78 ,LWB with ambi doors, one bigger than the other?

Yes, my confusion on the BJ78, it's actually an HZJ78 (I think) as noted by my ole buddy PacToy.
You are right on the Gulf War portion of the 75. I was there and remember these being given to the Military. I have waited all of those years for the chance to get one through the DRMO process in the military--finally got my chance and got it. I feel lucky in that it is in great shape and runs reall well. I'm in the process of registering it in Japan now and that is becoming interesting--you would think something made in Japan would be easy to register in Japan--Not the case.
I will be coming to Australia in a few months (May timeframe) and look forward to seeing all of the Cruisers you fellas have there.
Thanks for the reply, S/F, Spark...

Trying again with the Photos

These are some photos of the wheeling we do on Okinawa. Some good friends and nice set up vehicles!

Sorry, only two here. I will have to wait till I get more space (Quota) to post the others...S/F, Spark...

Shane spoke to me a month or so ago about yours.

It took three or four months and cost dearly to get it done right.

My best advise would be to get it to a shop that has done one before and pay them what it takes. Asking "some guy" to do it, particularly in Okinawa, may result in regrets later if you know what I mean.

If you get stuck ask Shane, Randy or Rudy for my kaitaidenwa number and give me a call. I can ask Tokura if he is willing to tackle one again. He did mine and Maj. Staman's a number of years ago.

Looks like your FJ45 has the spare tire mounted on the tail gate or a bumper. Any more pictures of that set up?

Hey Sparky, you still got it wrong on your Prado. It is a KZJ-78 not and HZJ like you dream about. You have the paperwork you need, you just need to ask and pay somebody to do the cert. I'll give you Dave's number.
The Marine Corp still has a couple of HZJ-75's Dave according to the list Sparky has.

I have the rear shot of your BJ-74 and Yoichi's roll 80 blocking a shot of your truck. I had to post the pic of Larry making a wrong turn as usual.

Yep you are still the same Sparky I know. You can't type or remember for s*** without a beer in your hand. You got yourself a KZJ-78 and a nice one at that. Now remember that, Killer. :flipoff2:

Yes, you can get that 75 here legally. Your have the certs as provided by Toyota. Some leg work involved. Use your kaitai and I will leave it at that.

I'll see you fxxxers in Oki most skosh.

Take Care Bro,

Randy

Wow! That is some extreme wheeling in Okinawa!!:D

Your so hillbilly. Let me give you a hint, Christmas is OVER! Take down your ice cycles.. Another hint because it is 0330 in the morning and I'm feeling generous, it doesn't freeze in Okinawa!:flipoff2:

So Sparky will you be there in February or will you be on a gator freighter? I would very much like a few nights back with company before we leave.

Take Care,

Randy

Yes mine is in Japan, it has been featured in LC magazine three or four times. I am famous here! :-)

Wink wink, nudge nudge ;-)

Well Damn! I thought you were just sexy. Now you are sexy and famous ???

Dave the sexy is now Dave the sexy and famous? Oh boy, are you moving up in the world!

I give up.

Going back to my little hole now.

Take Care,

Randy

Please don't worry about my spelling here, I could be wrong (Again).

Pic 1: Tinia, Pic 2: Tinia Pic 3: Golf course?

We all know Larry likes making wrong turns but he gives her hell when he does.

Take Care, Shane

Randy

P.S. I can't get these damn pics to upload in my quotes so niether of you better erase the ones I quoted..

My bad on the Prado...

:smokin: OK, so I don't know exactly what the Prado is:whoops: ...Wifes Truck and I don't take it in the mountains. It's a good family truck but I would like to take it through MejiYama once and see how it does!!

The paperwork I have is good to go but I'm still being told that it has to go through Mainland for the emissions test (Veh Regs doesn't know but Okinawa friends are telling me it has to). The same fella BJ44 (PACTOY) bought the 75 from is helping me at this point, will see what he comes up with. Would like to talk with Japan4x4 concerning his and see what he advises. I will try to get number from contacts here and call. All I want to do is get the thing licensed so I can then Modify it to make the trails. Already have the 80 axles with E-lockers (Will replace with cables once their under the truck) and am working on the lift. Engine will be replaced with the 3FE as well.

Looks as if I have a hook up for registration in the states and all should finalized in a month. Does anyone think having a stateside title will help??:ban:

As soon as I get the plate and title all will be well--if I have any money left!

Talk with you all later...Spark:beer:

Trying..

Checking the quote way...Still no room for pics...

Whoa! Holy s*** Batman! What did you just type? I got a empty bottle of Crown, and empty bottle of Kelly's Revenge and my case of Miller Lite is almost gone but this is the most funny thing I have read in a while!

What are you on the the USS "Boat" again or just at the beer wagon's house?

Here's a quicky for ya:
BJ-44 is Shane (AKA Hairhelmet)
PacToy is me (AKA ToughGuy)
Japan4x4 is Dave

I'm also pretty damn sure you don't have a 3FE in that 75 you got. Oh, I could be wrong again as I have been known not to be the all knowing ToughGuy yet.:grinpimp: Maybe a 3F???

You have everything you need to import the 75 legal beagle.. Use your kaitai now.

Then my dumbass thought the tragedy was over but then you went and reposted your own quote... This is the best 0200 in the morning laugh I have had in a while!!!!

Will you be there in Feb or will you be sailing the high seas on the boat? I'm coming back for about 10 days and would like to hook up again.

Take Care, Sparky, your one hell of a Marine,

Randy

Your 75 should have a 3F in it, why change it unless you can buy a diesel? It also is probably a 1990, Jan build. Why bother with the 80 series diffs? Just get some cable lockers.

Randy (PacToy) is correct, Japan4x4 = Dr. Stedman (Randy and Shane can call me Dave).

What mainland are you going to send the truck to? China? Korea????

I am on the island of Honshu.

:-)
