FJ-70 lift question (1 Viewer)

Hi, I'm looking for some advice on new tires for my FJ-70. I'm trying to get ahold of an OME suspension lift kit, but my question is what size tires I should move up to once the lift is complete? Right now the truck has the stock 225/75R-16s. Any recommendations on an ideal tire with a taller profile and a bit more offroad traction - but that would still be appropriate for driving in town occasionally - would be great.

Alternately, if I can't get the lift kit to bring back overseas with me (I'm only in the U.S. for six weeks, and delivery isn't assured in that time) could I run slightly larger tires without running into a problem? If so, any recommendations? Would 245/75-16 fit?

Finally, I'd be interested in buying new wheels in the U.S. along with the tires, but I don't know how to order rims which will fit the bolt pattern on my FJ (and it's not in the U.S. here with me). Does anyone have a link to a set of appropriate wheels?

Nice truck! 245's would fit no problem. Actually, they'd be too small with a lift. I'd think you'd want 275 or 285's. They'd probably fit OK for awhile with the stock suspension unless you hit a big bump or took a tight turn.

Mine have been running 32"x11.5"/R15 (close to 290/75/15) for 2 year plus with +2" coil spring lift with NO problem. The vehicle stance could be viewed on this same registry,

With the front fenders trim, tested 35"-36" Centipedes with existing set-up. The 35"/11.5"/16 are equivalent to 290/85/16.

OME are not the only lift kits on the market and certainly not the best IMO
Im on my 2nd set of Dobinsons and I beleive they are at least equal and probably better to OME.
The wheels on a 70 are the same as a 60 series AFAIK

Im not sure what size is best in the 16 inch rims but I had 15 inch rims with 33/10.5/15 on my FJ73 and I thought they were the best all round size you could get if you consider braking and on road handling important.

The OME FJ-70 kits is almost the same as the BJ70 kit, except the front springs are lighter because the engine is less weight.

33" diamter tires will fit without issues. 35" tires may rub depending on the wheel offset and tire diameter. metric 35" tires are not really 35" they are more like 34.5" (315/75/16)

Dobson kits will be difficult to source in the US in the time you are there. ARB USA stocks all of the parts you need for the FJ70 kit, but the springs weigh around 55 lbs (25 kg) each. Getting them back to Moldova will be costly.

I got my OME kit from Iron Pig Offroad. They deal directly with ARB USA and can get anything is short order.

I'm going to see if I can get the ARB kit put together in time, since shipping won't be an issue (got a work shipping allowance to cover that). And thanks aamiggia for the link to Iron Pig, turns out they are not that far away from me and I had never even found out about them yet. I'll share photos once she's lifted and got on some new treads!
