Stock, smogged 85 FJ60. Powerful, runs fine, full tune up, passes emissions, perfect vacume etc..... When under load if you let off the gas a touch then reapply it, it will hesitate, at times quite a bit. I plan to try a new fuel pump but the pressure is fine

any ideas?

My 85 does something similar, but only right after startup through the first couple of runs through the gears, then it's fine. Don't think it's the fuel pump....I have a brand spankin' new pump in mine and it still does it. I'd like to know the answer to this one too.

Perhaps air fuel mixture?? I know my cruiser hesitates in the morning, usually when it's cold out and I haven't given her time to warm up. Once warm, she's fine. If the engine is already warm, perhaps a carb issue as stated.

You pretty much monkey with the air/fuel mix as a last ditch effort.

If you're having trouble in the mornings, check your hot air intake valve in the front of your breather. It blocks the main intake that runs behind the headlight and diverts it to a hose that is attached to the exhaust manifold. Once it's warm, the vac relases the valve and you go back to fresh air.

Slow fuel cut circuit in carb? Maybe a sticky power valve in carb. Failed secondary diaphram possibly. Has the carb been rebuilt in the last 10 years?

also check the BVSVs on the t-stat housing, one of them messes with the choke opener, I replaced both on my 82 and it fixed what sounds like is the problem with yours. They are easy to test, when cold blow into the outer, nothing should come out the inner, when warm(100+) air should come out the inner. I "might" have it backwards however.
