'88 FJ62 body on a '91 FJ80 frame/running gear (H42 manual trans) with an FJ60 front clip.

I bought this truck a year ago - and although I love it, things change and it no longer fits. Getting married and job is changing...

Build thread was here on MUD:

https://forum.ih8mud.com/60-series-wagons/57360-project-uranus.html

I didn't build it, but Al did a great job.

I've fixed *most* of the little things that get overlooked during a conversion like this - driveline vibe, steering, Air Conditioning, etc.

EDIT 03/04/10: Asking $6,500. The H42 definitely has a bad 2nd gear synchro...drives fine as long as you don't use 2nd gear. Price is "as is".

I think it might pass Cali smog. I've got titles for both donor vehicles - a '91 and an '88. Right now it is registered in Utah as an '88. No underhood inspection required here, but I've got most of the OEM smog equipment you could put back on it.

That is some kind of sweet......

Good luck with the sale........I love it.......I want it.....
But I can't afford the attorney fees that would come from the :princess:

All - haven't quite got it fully diagnosed yet, but I think the H42 has a 2nd gear synchro that has gone bad. Not 100% sure...but sure does feel like it to me.

Since I'll most likely be fixing a tranny issue...I'll swing a deal if you're looking to buy but would rather swap in an H55 or NV4500.

Now I remember. I looked at your truck a month ago. Have you looked at the syncro for the 2nd gear? What needs to be done to fix it?

Don't know what it takes to repair...not sure you could tell that accurately without tearing it apart. I've had a few people look at it/drive it and the collective opinion is that the 2nd gear synchro is broken.

Choices...depends on what you want. I haven't decided for sure what I would do, but a replacement H42 is easy and an H55F or NV4500 isn't much more difficult.

easy is relative. I have never done a swap, and would be going it alone.

h42s are cheap though. A good used one can be had for $100-150. The h55f would be the smart choice for this truck. $1800 or so for new one. Plus the labor or time. It might be a little more difficult of a swap considering it is in a FJ62.
