I took my wiper motor apart today and was wondering exactly how the two contacts that make the wipers return to the down position work. Does anybody have any in depth info. With my switch pushed in to the stop position and the wiper motor unbolted from the dash the motor slows to almost a stop and then continues around and then cycles back to a stop then repeats. Does it need resistance to stop? Also, how do you know where to line up the contact disc inside that sits on top of the plastic gear? Thanks!

the brass ring contacts send power to the motor when the switch is placed in the off position(this closes the circuit for the park position). once they get to the gaps it shuts off power and the wiper "parks".

the timing of the wiper motor pivot arm and the position of the gap in the contact ring is crucial to getting the wipers to park in the correct location.

Why would they just slow down instead of stopping? Contacts not breaking at the gaps?

so, there are two settings on my vehicle

1) wayyyy too slow, so slow that they stop
2) not very fast

however, on one occasion (once in over a year) the setting that is usually way to slow made my wipers go 'full blast' and the not very fast setting made them go ultra fast....

Anyone know what is wrong?
