Hey All, Just thought i'd share a success story.
I have a 91 with the 3FE, bought it in pretty rough shape and have slowly bringing her back to her glory.

For some time, had a weird idle issue that was progressively getting worse. Intermittently I had a high (1200-1600) idle and sometimes would have this horrible surging. The surging was basically like rev'ing up to almost 2k which made it fairly dangerous to drive, cuz you know, stopping that truck pulling @ 2k RPM.

I ended up targeting the TPS sensor which after testing I couldn't get to prove me right, it seemed fine. I didn't bother to use a gauge and check resistance at the specified gaps, i just went slow on the throttle and monitored the resistance looking for hiccups. none.

I then checked my IAS valve, just looking for proper resistance between the various terminals as the tech book outline, flat out failed the tests (0 ohms resistance) on 1/2 of the switch. LIGHT BULB.

Too bad that part is disco'd via toyota. I ordered on a few websites @ $300+ all to just get backordered then told it's no longer. Cruiser Corps however had a used one I bought online, when I got it the thing was crazy cruddy but passed the resistance test. I popped mine out and put this in, which had to be one of the easiest repairs ever, right on top of the motor. Worked like a charm.

She's back at a perfect idle, bout to re-up my DEQ tags and hit the trails! See ya'll out there

EDub.
