OK I hate giving/rewarding toyota by buying a $170 part that they should replace for free (they do in many high volume sales cars like the Avalon) I could buy the overseas $25 pot metal part, or I could.... install a viper remote start / push button start system that connects to her Iphone ect... less than $200, button goes where key was and looks pretty factory... to go back to OEM just reinstall lock & cam

I bought a turkish copy of the cam, it lasted 7 months, ended up buying OEM in the end. I think toyota are taking advantage of there own mistake, they could at least sell the cam separately. How does the steering lock work with the remote start?

For the aftermarket "push to start buttons" I looked at before, install required bypassing both the steering lock and the OE immobilizer. Is it the same with the system you are considering?

Personally, I'd just pay the $170. It's an updated/strengthened part. Should be trouble-free after that. Has anybody broken version 2.0?
