Hello,

I'm taking my first trip to Hungry Valley this weekend. Going there Friday night camping and hittin the trails on Saturday. Few questions for you guys that have been out there. I'm worried about visibility when trying to find a campsite at night. Will it be difficult to navigate the site to find a good campsite? Any good campsite recommendations?

Also, I still have my running boards on and dont have time to get sliders will I be able to navigate most of the trails with them on or should I take them off? Any other input or info for a first timer at HV will be appreaciated. Thanks for you help.

Mike

Finding a camping spot shouldn't be an issue because its spread out all over. Here is my write up about MY first trip to Hungry Valley:

As far as whether or not you should take off your running boards.....

Whoa I will definitely be taking off my running boards. Thanks for the reply. Can you recommend any camp sites?

You don't need to take off your running boards unless you are like Joey and stall going uphill and have to come crashing down.

Campsites are easy to find at night. The whole area is cleared well and shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks for the replies, have any of you been out there during this time of the year? I wanna know what to expect for weather conditions.

Hot, bright, and lots of dust. Kind of like camping in the desert, except you see lots of trees nearby.

And bugs!

And dirtbikes EVERYWHERE!

ah yes. In fact I think Randy and I were 2 of 5 trucks there. EVERYONE else was on a dirt bike. The OHV area was also a lot smaller than I expected too. Randy and I did pretty much the whole thing in under a few hours.

Now that it is June the gate will be open in the back area and we could go all the way up the mountain...

Not sure joey likes that area, someone was eyeing his Jerry Cans.

Those bastards. I might be interested in checking out past that gate.

Which gate is this? i'd like to check out this trail. Do you know the name of the road that goes up the mountain? Thanks

The gate goes to Gold Hill, and on up Alamo Mtn. Someone at the last club meeting mentioned that the road was very dusty due to the logging that's been going on up on Alamo.

Thanks, I'll check it out. How far is the mountain from the OHV area? Also, I've seen some videos of vehicles driving up the steep hills at Hungry valley looks like a lot of fun. I have a stock 06 LC, can my stock tires handle those hills climbs? Thanks for the info guys.

Air down your tires a little. Try not to go alone if you can help it.

I'll do that. I'm not going alone, a few of my buddies are riding with me. Other than going to Azusa canyon I dont have much off road experience. Is the weight of having 3-4 people in my car not a good idea when navigating steep hills? Thanks again.

Having your truck loaded is fine. Just use prudence when in dangerous situations. Don't over think it. Go have a good time and mess around safely.
