The dealer really took a bite out for the timing belt, water pump, thermostat and housing, idler pulleys, and fan belt - $1400. But now I have peace of mind as I start a mild build. And I have a happy wife, picked up a 2013 RX 350 with only 40K of the odometer and clean as a button.

I contacted many dealers both Toyota and Lexus about the cost of timing belt change with water pump and it ranged from $1400 to a silly $2700. They priced out the individual parts and it seemed like the oem water pump was one of the more expensive pieces.

I ended up ordering an Aisin timing belt and water pump kit (TKT-021) and a Bando serpentine belt for $200. One of the Toyota dealers said they would install my parts for $710 plus tax. $1000 parts and labor is about as much as I wanted to spend otherwise I would have done it myself.

I guess the price I paid was in the ball park so I don't feel so bad. Glad I can drive a while before doing this again.

For getting it all done at the dealer, that’s a pretty solid price! Definitely a lot of cash to dole out, but you got a good deal. I think $1500 was the ball park average for the independent Toyota / lexus shops around me in ATL last summer.

Wel, I can sleep at night knowing it was done correctly and Lexus would back up the workmanship. Now on to suspension.

Peace of mind is a good thing.

When I had the whole cooling system replaced due to seeping radiator and unknown timing belt history, I ordered and bought all the parts myself online and at the dealer with coupons. it came out under $550 for all parts including tax and shipping.

I then asked a couple of independent mechanics for a quote on labor. One mechanic liked that all the parts were quality parts like aisin, denso, bando, Mitsuboshi, and Toyota. He did it for $500 total labor.

cheaper: buy the parts yourself, find a good inexpensive Indy mechanic to do the labor.

cheapest: buy the parts yourself, install yourself.

Parts included: red coolant, radiator, rad cap, thermostat, water pump, timing belt, drive belt, upper/lower hoses, pulley.
