Long time reader, first time poster. Thanks to all you guys for the plethora of information on this site, its been very helpful with getting me to this point.

Bought a 2008 LC with 174k miles for $17,500 USD. Seemed like too good of a deal to pass up. Was sick of the repairs on the wife's Ford Explorer and when I saw this come up at that price I had to jump on it. At first I was debating on flipping it and making a quick buck, however I've since changed my mind and think it will be staying in our garage. Regardless, there are several areas of this truck that require some refreshing and that sort of project is something I tend to enjoy every once in a while, but could use some pointers and had some general questions.

1) interior... overall its pretty clean just need a good detail cleaning. Its missing the rear DVD entertainment remote and I've learned they are $300+ from the dealer :bang: I've read some previous threads and it appears other members have found some knock-offs on eBay for significantly cheaper, but I'm not seeing them listed anywhere??

2) The paint is popping off the driver's side rear view mirror and the spoiler. Have to get these repainted, but does anyone know if Toyota sells these parts already painted? I also need to have the front bumper cover replaced, has some hairline paint cracking.

3) The seller included this particular part (painted white in attached pic) and I have no clue what its for? It looks like a license plate holder, but doesn't appear to fit this truck?

4) Things I plan to do immediately are replace the radiator (has an epoxy quick fix on the typical failure spot), water pump, fan clutch, and spark plugs. Seafoam'd it this weekend and burnt off a reasonable amount of carbon build up. Overall the powertrain is top notch, very impressed with the truck. After buying one of these its like a joined a secret club that I didn't even know existed, the truck is just solid inside and out. No rattles or sputters or anything, I guess I get the whole LC cult thing now LOL. The air filters looked like they were 50k miles overdue, swapped them immediately, and I would have never guessed that when test driving the truck it was desperate for air. Needless to say, this LC will be cared for much better from now on (previous owner was a college student that didn't appear to have much automotive knowledge).

5) Also need another key fob, only came with one, is this something that can be done by myself or is dealer required?

Thanks guys and look forward to being a regular on the forum

First, congratulations on purchasing the correct color!

I can help with a couple of the easy questions:

1) If you can borrow a remote that works, you can use it to program a cheap programmable remote which you can purchase for cheap on Amazon or ebay. There's no reason to pay the exorbitant dealer price for an original remote.

2) The rear view mirror covers are sold pre-painted from Toyota parts for about US$56 each. Here's a link to one source: Genuine OEM Outside Mirrors Parts for 2008 Toyota Land Cruiser Base - Olathe Toyota Parts Center

The bumper cover does not come pre-painted - you'll have to have that painted if you replace the cover.

3) Looks like a center bumper add-on part that may be OEM for markets other than North America, but my advice would be to chuck it or list it on IH8MUD, ebay or Craig's List.

5) The key fob is the biggie on your list. My experience is that the dealer is the only source for a correctly coded key and fob that work and it is expensive - a few hundred dollars. Some fobs are sold on ebay with the claim they will work, but I have yet to hear of anyone successfully coding them - even using knock-off Toyota Techstream software. You may have to bite the bullet with this one.

I'm sure others will contribute with alternatives or better suggestions, that's what makes this place work so well.

Welcome!

Awesome! Thanks for the links and tips, your all over it. Ordering those parts now!

I bought my 2008 last fall and paid twice what you did, so I think you got a great deal! Mine has half the miles, but I don't know that equals twice the price.

In any event, may want to consider flushing all the fluids if no records exist of it having been done recently.

Welcome to the “secret club”. Looks like a nice tow vehicle in the first pic. That RAM yours too?
