Whoa! guess I should call the guy....

This week I am going to put a refundable deposit down on a new 2022 with one of the dealers who assures me he can get one. I have little hope and less faith; we shall see.

Simultaneously pursuing everything I see that looks decent.

@Farnsrocket: question - saw a Sequoia (in photos only) that looks very good, but asked for additional photos including the suspension. One shows the (TRD, red) sway bar with some black overspray on the inboard side. Guessing that suggests some damage repair to the frame in that area? The Carfax shows no accidents. Am I correct to be wary of that; haven't seen any overspray on a sway bar previously.

It’s hard to really know. I mean, it could just be Fluid Film treatment. Wonder if the whole underside is undercoated to look better i.e. hide rust.

Thanks. Fluid Film: that would be optimal. Western car so that is possible - I plan to ask the dealer tomorrow. It's only a couple of years old, so I doubt it is rusty.

I've narrowed my search to 2020s and newer to minimize the chance of a car with hidden rust (plus, they all cost a fortune so I might as well try to find a newer one). At this point if I were confident I could order and receive a car within a couple of months I'd just bite the bullet and get a new one. Going to try that too, but I seem to uncover a new 'possibility' every day (and it's astounding how many ads there are on sites like cars.com, auto trader, Carfax, etc., only to find that the car was sold long ago).

Reading this thread makes me glad I went for my 21 TRD Pro last August. The situation was almost as crazy but I was able to get the truck at MSRP and got a really good trade in for my VW Alltrack, as in insane - a 2019 car that I was almost $3K equity positive on. I'm crossing my fingers for the posters in this thread searching for a new 'old' Sequoia
That's right, rub it in ....

Noticing your signature info: our next purchase (if I ever complete this search) is a new GX460 for my wife; they seem to be solid (and fancy enough to suit her).

@Perfect Tommy not rubbing it in I promise...it was hard enough paying MSRP for a car to begin with but the trade in let me rationalize it away. I like you think of this as a very long term truck and wanted the simplicity of the V8 and 6 speed platform for reliability purposes and longevity [not that the new TT 6 cylinder won't be great, but we don't know what we don't know right now and more tech usually means more problems]. I wanted to get the "last of the old gen"

I'm squarely rooting for you in your court on the sidelines here. The GX has been a great rig and similarly just bought out the lease for that one that I wrote in 2017 for a song compared to what "market" is. I'm the Toyota whisperer in 2021, which I suppose I'll take since much else of my life went real sideways last year. Silver linings. Good luck and keep the faith - I look forward to seeing what you land in your driveway

$75,000 with 150 miles on it. But you’d have to get it shipped across the border... It’s not a big deal, just get a broker to do it.

Whoa, that’s the one! The ad shows a few more miles, but only $75K US for an SR5 is too good to pass up. I am sure shipping and customs duties, etc from Canukistan is negligible these days, too.

This would all be amusing if I didn’t actually need the vehicle.

I AM NOT DETERRED.

Afraid I’ll have to pass. I really want leather seats.

The seats are leather.

The “mileage” is in KMs and 276 km is roughly 150 miles. There is this thing called “NAFTA” that means there is no duty on goods produced in North America. You would just pay the same taxes you’d pay buying it locally. You just pay the federal portion at the border at time of import.

You can easily get the odometer switched over to miles as well, since I’m assuming you don’t speak Canukistani?

OK, now I feel dumb. responded without really paying attention, obviously, and it was prior to coffee indulgence. Didn't even consider NAFTA*; miscalculated km=miles**; didn't even know you can get leather package in SR5. @joseywales, you are correct, of course, on all counts. I am chastened.

All-in-all, this might be a decent deal if the seller will negotiate. I will contact and report back.

* ** even worse: I used to negotiate int'l trade deals .....

@VentoGT: I know. It seems there are several here who share the same outlook on these: for a long-term, more-than-a-grocery getter, this generation (with the V8 and relatively unsullied by technology) are the ones to have.

"Keep the faith". Ha, you're not a 356 guy too, are you?

A quick message to Woody should allow you to change your screen name to IMperfect Tommy... :hillbilly:

A friend of mine used to be the business manager at that dealership. If you call them, tell them you were referred by Rich Wilding and it may or may not save you some coin...

My work here is done. Now I’ll go make MY coffee;)

Interestingly enough, I "am" or used to be. I had a 1962 356 T-6B in the late 2000s--have you seen me on Rennlist or another board in past? I bought it cheap and sold it cheap too back when the "normal" cars could be had for sane money. Loved the car but didn't make sense to keep it at the time. Probably should have in retrospect of course

My favorite sports car. I am a 356 guy and 'B's are my favorite! have had a couple and raced a couple. I thought you might be a 356er from the "Keep the Faith" comment which was what a guy called The Maestro used in all his columns. He was a SoCal mechanic of note who wrote a couple of books and a column for the 356Registry years ago.

That Champagne (or Sunflower?) B is a beauty. You ought not to have sold it. My favorite was a '63 S90 I restored, Ivory with Blue interior (slightly hot-rodded engine and suspension). Sadly, it was T-boned and totaled. The last one I had I sold just a few years ago when, because I had young kids, I couldn't use it much. Sold too early though....

I'll see if I can find some pics.

With things as they are in the collectors' world probably will never get another. They are such fun.
