First Post. Which Sequoia to Buy? Edit: THIS ONE!!!! Now with Pics!

Not disappointed!

The dealer still wants a $5000 market adjustment to this rare vehicle. Also larded on a bunch of: 'protectant' for inside and outside (the last thing I want is dealer-applied ceramic paint treatment ... and who knows what they applied inside); cables, sill and other protectors, etc.

Best of all, I need to hurry, someone is coming in later to probably buy the truck.

WHAT TO DO?!?!?!?!
What a joke. No surprise though. I encountered multiple dealers doing the same nonsense. I made mental notes to never deal with them in the future.

OK- started a new thread. I was just told Sequoia production has "ceased for current generation". This cannot be true can it?

Even with a new generation upcoming for 2023, would production cease in January? That would mean almost no 2022s ever being built. and there surely is pent-up demand ....

Anyone have any real info on this?

The saga continues, and I have adopted a new, more positive, outlook. I have become jaded and cynical, which seems to be helpful. Have begun to call ridiculous ‘asks’ ridiculous and the reactions are fun: everything from ‘righteous indignation’ to embarrassed acknowledgement of the situation. Still no movement on price, though.

The dearth of TRD Pros is a mystery: have been told that there is a ‘hold’ on them due to a recall associated with power steering. Have been told that they just don’t build many. Probably some truth to both stories. This is addressed in my other thread, about 2022 Sequois no longer being built (which assertion is debated among the various dealers).

As far as configuring something ‘close’ in another model, that, too, remains problematic. TRD Sport would be closest (Bilsteins, TRD sway bars), but despite the configurator showing a Premium package with leather seating (a must, with heat and 10-way adjustment. ‘Happy wife …’), no one has been able to turn up a single example in the pipeline so equipped. The couple I have seen for sale are asking +/- $70K.

As noted, buying a Limited, if I can get one, would result in an additional sizeable layout to install the equipment I want . Plus, removing some of the aesthetic enhancements ( I don’t like chrome).

The Nightshade model also looks viable, if I can find one. Still would require a lot of suspension bits, but …

I don’t like Premiums: the faux wood accents in the interior put me off (I hope there’s not a lot of that on the new models).

QED: thanks to the advice here, have broadened my search, and am keeping an open mind to possibilities. Also developing patience and hoping that as dealers receive new allotments, something will turn up.

P.S. Already know what my next thread will be: comparing OEM and aftermarket components. Having been through this with a sports car recently can see there there will be lots of options for springs, shocks, coilovers, bumpers, skid plates, racks, lights, etc. all the fun stuff. Kudos to @Farnsrocket, again, for a couple of great build threads in the Tundra forum, the next one I’ll join. Lots of great info there.

I just did a nationwide search on Autotrader. There are a handful of TRD Pro's listed that don't seem to be at a markup (but who knows, once you call the dealer they may tell you there is a markup). You may have called these dealers already, but here's what I found. The one at Fred Anderson Toyota seems to still be available. Not sure about the other ones.

WOW! GREAT SLEUTHING, Thanks. Had not seen any of these; is it possible that all appeared within last 24 hours? Don't know how I missed them, except that I haven't looked at Autotrader in the past couple of days (see the same cars over and over on the other sites ...).

Any rate, contacted all of them either via chat or email to confirm availability and price. The Toyota Vallejo TRD Pro is not for sale, being used by the owner of the dealership ....

Awaiting responses from the others. If any of these are real and will sell at the advertised price or less, I will have a vehicle! I hope this is not Too Good To Be True.

EDIT: hmmmm. just heard from Kerry, Florence, KY. Co-incidentally, that vehicle is not available as it's being used by the dealership's owner as a demo.

Fingers crossed for you. I emailed Fred Anderson Toyota and someone by the name of Nicole Diaz replied saying it's still available with a selling price of $68,374. If that's true, might be a good option. The magnetic gray color is very nice too.

Ha. My response also was from Nicole Diaz; just phoned the number she left and I guess they aren't open today. left a voice mail. Looks like that one has, at a minimum, $1300 more in add-ons (window tint, protective film) and appears to be "in transit". The Bend OR one has no actual photos, so wondering if it, too, is "on the way"...
This looks familiar.

Two dealers with whom I spoke over the past couple of days indicated that they are getting new allotments this week, so maybe some of these are in the works.

Come on, Carson City.

This is exciting, I hope you get it! :bounce::bounce2:
Thanks. me too. Damn, @goodnightnyc, I was prepped to step away for a week and wait to hear from the guys awaiting allotments. Now, I am stoked again.

The Carson City truck is real: there are photos. If the price is real, and they will sell outside their territory, that would be a good one. (The Anderson one mentioned above is real, but the price may not be. Hope to find out tomorrow).

If either of the guys with whom I spoke gets a TRD Pro allotted this week, then I very likely have a car (if Lunar Rock or Grey). Both indicated they would sell at MSRP.

Cannot recall where I heard it, but a non-Toyota dealer/salesperson on another site suggested that the logjam might be breaking up. His place was experiencing more deliveries and was under the impression that the situation might be industry-wide.

I hope one of these works out for you!

Thanks for the good wishes. Ugh, Carson City is out. Sold. They can order one, with a $5000 ‘market adjustment’ to whatever price …

The one in Bend, OR, same, and they can order a 2023 for only a $10,000 market adjustment!

Thanks for the effort, @goodnightnyc, it looks like it’s back to the drawing board. Will continue to ferret out dealers who might sell for MSRP and hope one of them gets a Sequoia. There cannot be a huge demand for these, given the falling sales over the past few years, but those who want one have been waiting a while. That back-up ought to work itself out, with luck before the model run ends. That’s what I keep telling myself.

Awaiting reply, but they did note that on top of the price in the ad ($68+K), there are about $1300 in dealer add-ones/accessories such as ’protectants’, so it’s at least $70K , plus taxes, etc …. Out of my range.
Ah ok. Maybe you can tell them you won’t pay for the useless add-ons. Otherwise hopefully one of the backup options works out.

Today, counter-offered $61K on a used 2021 Limited; the dealer was asking $74K. They never responded.

It felt good.

Continuing to contact dealers that advertise, and a few more-or-less randomly in select markets. Neither of the dealers (expecting allotments) to whom I spoke last week will get any.

Wow. $74k for a used Sequoia. Can’t wait for this overheated market to return to normal so these dealers can get their greed in check.

The release of the redesigned ‘23 Sequoia is right around the corner. Jan 25th. I wonder what impact that release will have on the existing model.

Trade-ins galore! Hundreds of new 2022s on the lots, unsold! Sequoias selling for under MSRP!

Actually, hoping it results in a few people cancelling orders for 2022s and going for the re-design. Free up a few more than what is expected. That would be beneficial for those of us looking for those old V8 dinosaurs ….

It is, unfortunately, looking like that is my only hope. Have had several dealers tell me they have received their last 2022 Sequioas (all sold ).

What a roller coaster! I just sold my ‘20 Tacoma back to our dealer yesterday for $7500 more than I paid 2 years ago. Crazy times indeed! I bought a Sequoia for cash to replace it, and had it at the dealer to drop off the Taco. Dealer staff was amazed at the Sequoia I got for about $5,000 under its value. It’s a 1st gen, but that’s what I wanted. I think the release of the ‘23 redesign on Tuesday will free up some orders. Lots of people need the latest and greatest. Like my wife, who I just ordered a Bronco Wildtrak for;)

Thank God for wives; hoping there are a few more like her.... the Bronco should be fun.

Roller Coaster indeed! Yesterday was the extreme: found a '21 TRD Sport with Premium package (leather) about an hour away. Price was high, but low miles, almost new .... checked it out- very nice; really couldn't find much fault (other than it was not CPO, and they wouldn't budge on the price which is higher than a '22 MSRP). Got home and decided that what I really wanted if I have to spend an inordinate amount of money was the '21 Lunar Rock TRD Pro with only 11K miles. Located in another state but had spoken to the dealer several times over the week. Just as I sat down to call, no lie, I got an email from him saying it had sold.

Reading this thread makes me glad I went for my 21 TRD Pro last August. The situation was almost as crazy but I was able to get the truck at MSRP and got a really good trade in for my VW Alltrack, as in insane - a 2019 car that I was almost $3K equity positive on. I'm crossing my fingers for the posters in this thread searching for a new 'old' Sequoia
