Looking to buy a Sequoia. With the ridiculous prices/meager availability of low-mileage/CPO used vehicles decided to buy a new one. It will be my first, replacing an Expedition. Will be primarily a people-hauler: family, equipment therefor (surfboards, skis, bikes, camping gear, etc.), and road trip vehicle. Maybe a bit of towing. Will be some off-road use, but for adventures and not rock-crawling. so, an 'all-rounder' v. dedicated off-roader.

I am torn between an SR5 (which would require upgrades) and TRD Pro for the reasons below. Would appreciate input from those with first-hand knowledge or experience with the models.

Question: initial thought was to go with SR5, add 4WD, add premium package to get leather seats, and add all-weather floor mats. Don't need anything else (initially). Then, I was knocked out by the TRD Pro in Lunar Rock, looks so cool. (I liked Olive Drab too but that doesn't seem to be available anymore).
1. Plus, it already is 4WD, comes with leather interior, and seems to come with mats (correct?).
2. From what I can tell the suspension is a bit beefier for greater off-road capability. Different shocks and springs and sway bar. Correct?
3. Are there other differences of which I am unaware? Gearing, cooling, etc? I have done side-by-side comparisons and cannot see any other differences ...

There's about a $3500 or so difference for the cool color, higher-zoot interior (contrasting stitching) and suspension TRD Pro. Are those enhancements worth it; or can I get an SR5 to the same point, adding on, for less?

Some manufacturers allow for customization: i.e.colors and trims that are not a 'package' but can be individually ordered. Does Toyota do that? Wondering if I could order the color and interior with the SR5 (and if that would be any cheaper)?

Thanks for any advice.

I would go TRD PRO without a question if you can get one. Start to add up the cost of tires, suspension, and other stuff. You will quickly exceed the cost of pro. Another reason I would go with the pro is resell value. Last reason, its the color you want and that cant be fixed.

Thanks. That's what I suspected, so good to hear.

NEXT QUESTION: are there recognized dealers who I can purchase from, online, who can more readily fill an order? Most brands have one or two dealers who are the big online sellers and can more readily secure a car and/or provide one at a decent price. Are there Toyota dealers who are more likely able to secure me one of these?

If you're really considering putting on a new suspension, rims, tires, roof rack, and other mods, I would probably go SR5. The TRD Pro has a lot of the options on it already and you're paying a premium for parts that you are going to swap out. If you plan on keeping it for awhile, then you could go that route instead. I think if you really like the TRD Pro and the carbon fiber on the inside and different quirks it has compared to the SR5, then for sure go that route.

Thanks. Agree; actually, the reason I like the TRD Pro is that it already has leather and the uprated suspension. If I went with the SR5 I would have to add all that, and from what I gather that would cost at least as much as the TRD Pro.
The carbon fibre on the TRD Pro is only trim on the dashboard area from what I can tell. correct?

Or what about get a Limited with leather and other nicer features and do some upgrades? I think TRD Pro doesn’t come with TRD sway bars, might be an option……same with exhaust. Seems like quite a few guys are not real keen on their TRD Pro suspension either, but that’s all personal preference I suppose.

Unless they changed something for 2022, there is all black plastic in the TRD Pro as my 2021 has no carbon fiber anywhere. As other posters have said, go TRD Pro unless you want to do serious modification to suspension to rock crawl it or something. As for what dealer can get what order, I'd be looking around at what is on the ground in the spec you want [the good thing is basically the only option on a Pro is the exhaust, so they are all specced the same] or talk to your most convenient local dealers about allocations and what you can buy from them.

I wanted Lunar Rock but settled for a white one as the closest Lunar Rock was in New York and I'm in MA. Good luck!

Agree with the other posters. Go for the TRD Pro unless you plan to do serious mods. I just picked up a ‘22 TRD Pro in Lunar Rock. I basically called every dealer within a 100 mile radius. I asked what they had in stock or incoming. Most were charging a markup on the TRD Pro.

I found a dealer in PA that had one incoming at MSRP. So I jumped on it.

Looking at TRD Pro and sent out a bunch of emails; now awaiting responses. There is nothing on the ground near me, so I am going nationwide. Kept my last SUV for a long time, so am not inclined to 'settle' if I don't have to: buy once, cry once.

I'm I the same boat: nothing nearby so I am sending emails all around the country. If I can find what I want @MSRP I, too, will jump and just have it delivered. Crazy times.

A couple of early responses were to the effect that 'we don't know what we will have or when, but if you give us a deposit, we will put you in line and let you know when something comes up'.

Yeah I got that line from some dealers as well. Sounds like they just want to hold your money and there’s no guarantee they’ll even get the vehicle you want.

Hopefully you can find a TRD Pro at sticker. I didn’t expect Sequoias would be marked up, as historically dealers were discounting them pretty heavily.

Good suggestion, and I looked at the Limited. The Limited has some things I don't want, the chrome accents: strip, mirrors, etc. Otherwise it looks like a good package of features, but I just cannot get past the 'shiny stuff'.

I hear ya, one of the first things I did was replaced all that or blacked it out and got the TRD Pro grill! :hillbilly:

Interesting. So that is a Limited? What did all the addition/deletion work cost?
Yes, a Limited.
The TRD Pro grill with the top hump piece, 4 door handles and mirror caps were probably around $500ish. Ordered from SparksToyota.com and McGeorgeToyota.com and they had free shipping which saved a lot. I Plasti-dipped the side and rear emblems.

I have a Platinum and I removed the 20 inch rims and went to the 18s found on the SR5 model. I also replaced the mirror caps with black caps to match the paint. I might do the door handles as well, but I also have the chrome strip on the door so I'm not sure how that would look. I like it better for now.

hmmmmm... now you've got me thinking... thanks.

The glitz I like least on the Platinum and Limited is that chrome strip. How is that attached? Is it bolted/riveted through the doorskin or stuck on?

My 14’ Limited didn’t have one, unless the previous owner took it off. That’d be an easy plastic-dip job too!
