hello everyone, first time poster here. i've gone down the rabbit hole and finally decided to get an LX 470 after debating it for years. my intent is not to be serious about offroading, rather to use it as a daily driver/cruiser and for the occasional road trip or mountain weekend getaway. i guess i've heard it referred to as a "mall crawler" 😅. although, i'm not opposed to tackling tough terrain and having fun with it if the opportunity arises.

in my search, i came across a 2005 LX 470 with 148k miles selling for $15k that looks to be in great condition, especially the interior. timing belt/water pump replaced 100 miles ago along with the shocks. serpentine belt replaced at 129k miles. im not sure if the AHC is working, but carfax states that it had a sensor replaced in 2006 and was serviced at the 60k mile mark in 2013. i asked about any history of the starter being replaced or hairline cracks in the radiator, and both reportedly have no issues. my one major concern with it is that it spent the first 14 years of its existence in Maine, then another 4 in NJ. carfax mentions undercoating having been applied and rechecked for a few years in a row. pictures seemingly look ok, but i do see a few areas of rust buildup.

hoping for opinions as to whether or not the undercarriage looks decent with the undercoating or if there are some red flags im not seeing since im a total noob. i'll also attach pictures of the engine bay which looks quite decent from the photos, but if i do decide to go check it out i'll make sure to bring a flashlight and inspect every crevice in addition to PPI.

Looks a little sketchy to me with the fresh undercoating. Others from up north with more experience can weigh in with first hand knowledge. I can see some delaminating of the center transfer case support cross-bar.

In looking at the selling dealer website photos, the seller didn’t care to replace the missing lug nuts on each wheel.

If you live where they salt the roads, maybe.
If you live where they don’t, hard pass.

alright thank you for the insight. in general, has anyone found undercoating spray to be effective at preventing rust in these vehicles anyway?

Yes, but covering over rust with undercoating (what has been done in this case) isn't the way to do it. You want to apply the undercoating when the vehicle is new or otherwise rust free.
