I am not sure what I ran over but I never saw it on the road nor did I see anything toss up behind me. Regardless, it was something gnarly enough to make a 2" hole in the tread of a KO2 at 55 mph. It tore a chunk out of the tread to the chords, it was beyond repairable and my dumb a$$ didn't take a pic. Unfortunately I didn't have the spare in the GX (long story) and I was two hours from home. I had to spend $6 on a gas station air compressor and I used four tire plugs to learn that it wasn't enough to plug it up so that I could drive to the nearest Discount Tire.

I ended up driving on the deflated tire some six or so miles to get to Discount only to find out that they wouldn't be able to get a KO2 replacement in that size this week so I settled for a KO3 for the price of a replacement cert fee ($64). The only other option was to wait seven or so hours for my wife to get off of work, get home, load the spare in my truck and then drive over to meet me and that would've been a colossal waste of time for everyone. I had the tire replaced and it'll likely become my new spare.

I've had half a dozen or more sets of KO2's over the past decade and never once have I had one that couldn't be repaired. On a positive note, I dig the KO3 and I'd consider going with them for my next set should I decide to lift the GX in the next year or so.

That sucks, glad they got you on the road.

That sucks. I have risked running with no spare away from home way more than I should have. Just hoping I could plug any hole. I remember hitting a scary chunk of metal in the road about 8 hours from home and was sure I'd be in a situation like you. I got lucky and my K03s survived.

Glad you were able to limp it in. I had some of the first KO2's 20+ years ago. Had way too many flats to consider trying them again.

Clicked for pics of blown-out tire, got pics of a dude's toes.

That's a crazy size hole! Did you hear/feel it when you hit it?
Guess a 275/65R18 doesn't fit in the back. Do you have plans for keeping a spare with you? Maybe a rear swing-out, either a bumper or receiver hitch type, or maybe strapping it inside?
Personally love BFG AT's and MT's and have been running them for the past couple decades!
The KO3's are a wee bit better than KO2's on most surfaces.

If she stays she’ll get a rear carrier and yes, sadly a little old 32” tire won’t fit in the factory spare location, it’s pathetic really.

I did hear it and that’s what got me listening and then I heard the pop and subsequent gushing of air escaping through the hole and I knew at that point I didn’t have long before it was totally flat.

Like yourself I’ve run half a dozen or more sets of the tires and never had an issue so there’s no loss in faith here. I’ll move to KO3’s on the next set.
