Well I was the first to get my cruiser here in Columbus,Ga.I had one blissfull week until that dreaded day I went out of town on business and left the FJ in the driveway next to my wifes car.Now I've got the first wrecked FJ in Columbus.
I didn't want to leave the FJ at the airport as she might have been damaged.I would have been better off taking her to the airport than leaving her at home with my wife..
We have a steep side to our driveway and my wife was looking there when she BACKED INTO MY FJ.She hit my left side with the right corner of her Honda Pilot and broke the rear light cover and ripped off the left side of the bumper. That silver thing popped right off and the black plastic bumper area next to it was damaged.
After my initial shock and call to the lawyer for divorce papers,I realized this would be a great opportunity for a new heavy duty bumper replacement.
My insurance had to cover it so why not add a few of my own dollars and upgrade the bumper.
The local body shop is checking on the light cover and rear bumper costs.I have not heard how long it will take to get the parts. The black plastic side panels are attached to the bumper so they have to be ordered too.I guess that would make the rear bumper design a little difficult.
My question is has anybody seen an aftermarket rear bumper for the FJ?
I have a front bumper from ARB coming but they currently don't have a rear one.I have looked at a few websites ,but I can't find one for the FJ.
If you see one let me know cause I gotta order a factory one or something else soon.
Also if you have seen any low profile rear lights I would like a pair of those too.
I guess the only good part is I can wheel her now without remorse when she gets a scratch.Cheers

I haven't seen anything aftermarket for them yet....

however, that said, I'd wager there are quite a few fab shops that would love to have yours to prototype one on....might be worth checking around (you'd be surprised what paying material cost will do for some design shop!)

We are actaully looking for an FJC to take measurements on and design a front and rear bumper and a few other things. We would be able to work a great deal out with anyone interested. We are lcoated in Noblesville, Indiana. (317)-984-1777 if interested.

If its any consolation, I picked my FJC up at 7p on March 31st and got rear ended by a cab on Market St in San Francisco the following morning at 11am. Working with AAA and the body shop has been interesting as they don't even have the FJC in their systems yet. The damage was minimal but everyone that sees the truck for the first time immediately asks what happened.

My sis banged her front bumper with some tire scraps and the insurance cost for the bumper was low from what I remember. I guess that flimsy front bumper was a ploy to make all the FJC owners pay retail for ARBs ;)

Billybongo63 looks like he has a modified bumper. But it could just be paint? I've pm'ed a few times, and I will see what he has.

Allpro makes a rear bumper, fab fours also has one. and metaltech is designing theirs right now, as is kaymar

Warn also has a rear bumper part #73961

The few rear bumper that are out are too bulky or too expensive for me. There are two super bumbers in the works, one at Expedition One and the other at Demello. Both versions are form fitting in the lines without the bulk, weight and departure angle compromises. They also use factory back up sensors and have integrated flood lights for backing etc. The catch is the prototype for both companies are nearly a year old and neither have yet to get one production unit to market. I have been working with James at Expedition One for 13 months and TOMORROW is the day this is finally to be shipped. I have heald my breath for this so long now that I no longer need oxygen. I have an invoice and a promice, so we will see.

I guess with the body side molding and the complex angles to keep in the style of the FJ, its a bitch to keep clean lines and proper gaps for fit and finish. I hope to show you all a bumper next week, maybe.

Still holding my breath....

Beowulf- I love it!!!!:D

Luckly all my scars have good stories!! Even the my wreck! Backed into camary and had to put it 4 low to get off his hood. Totalled his car, and stightly bent my bumper. Was able to clamp the plastic back in. Since the wreck was ruled "not my fault" it wasn't even worth it to file a claim on the bumper. I think it was 3 or 4 hundred. The plastic coverings are really cheap.
